That is... do they believe there is a God that Christians believe in? I don't know, I am just curious.

Thank you Carol for the history lesson. I did not know the first two things. Although I always appreciate learning new things, it really did not answer my question.

Thanks to everyone who has answered so far. I am not in any way thinking of converting. I am a christian but I know someone who claims to be a "satan worshipper" but he said he does not believe in God. I didn't understand how that could be and thought that I would ask people who might know.

There are many different types of Satanists, just as there are many different divisions of those that say they love and worship God. From what I’ve learned about them, I, unofficially, classify them into two categories: 1) Dabblers and 2) True Satanists.
If you asked an alleged Satanist if he/she believes in God and they say no, then they are what I classify as dabblers. A true Satanist believes in God and believes every single word of the Bible.

Satanists do not believe in God OR Satan. They believe in the power of themselves instead of the might of a higher being.

True satanists are really atheistic. They do not belileve in worshipping anything outside of Self. They believe that to worship a god is a sign of weakness within a person, and therefore to be avoided. Since this is quite the opposite of what established religion teaches, they took the name "Satanists" to show their rebellion. NOT because they worship the Devil, or whatever you choose to call it.

I think you would have to belive in God to believe in Satan. It's just who you worship. If God created Satan - a Satanist would have to at least acknowledge that God is.

They believe that Satan IS God. I think its weird, but in order to believe in Satan, you have to believe in the Bible. I wonder how many of them also know that the word "satan" is derived from a Hebrew word "sataan" or "saatan" (not sure of the exact spelling) that means "the enemy". Thus, they are worshipping a word, nothing more. In my world, they are only justifying their own evil.

My understanding is that they believe in a flipped version of christianity, in which "god" is the evil one and "satan" is the good, but misunderstood one.
It's all garbage to me, though. It's just christianity with a plot twist.

Satanists believe that there is an afterlife and just feel like worshiping their own verson of god. They believe that god isn't everything to everyone, its different for everyone. The church sees this something against their religion and calls it an evil thret.

Satan does not care that you believe in God, he does not even care that you believe in Jesus. Satan knows there is a God and Jesus, he and his demons believe and tremble, the only thing satan does not want you to do is ask Jesus into your heart and life.

Satanists (as in, the Church of Satan) are atheistic.
Luciferians believe in the presence of YHWH but worship the Satan-character of that particular mythology.
