Bitter apple. Or put the dog in a crate if you can't watch it. But if its a lab puppy or lab cross, it will probably rip your floor up no matter what you do.

Our Goldens are a year and a half and 10 weeks. When Sienna was a puppy she chewed every bit of anything she could, including the 1930's wood cabinets. We tried bitter apple and bitter lime, she licked it off. Knowing we would get her a sister someday, we didn't fix the little problems, only the big ones. Of course Savannah chews the same places. And the bitter must be sweet to her too.

You have your choice - a rug runner - a vinyl runner - newspaper -
throw rug - keep puppy out of the kitchen - keep puppy crated and when she is not crated - keep her in a room with ceramic or wood or vinyl floors and if that is not possible, then lay down a blanket for puppy to play on so she is never in direct contact with the floor until she is older and her behavior is under control.

Try Bitter Apple - you can buy it at Pet Smart. No smell just makes the carpet taste bad to the puppy. It works great!

Is it a carpet or an area rug? If an area rug, I would just take it up. Puppies are going to chew. If it is the whole floor, I would take it up also and put down tile or linoleum. Puppies will chew. Believe me, I know from experience!!!!!!!

Crate your puppy when you can't supervise it. Would you leave a human baby alone unsupervised?
