Are you insane? That is outrageous! I will do it for you for 75 and I will provide the product! I guess I need to get some greed in me.

First, you are paying WAY to much. I would go else where if being charged that. And no, $5 is not a good tip. I usually pay $45-50 for multi-colored highlights and cut. I leave a tip of $10-20 dollors depending on the job done and what not.

I am a hairdresser and I used to work in a booth rental salon...did you ever think that maybe she ups your price a little higher since you haven't been a good tipper? (I've seen that done by some of my co-workers.) I would at least tip 10 to 15 percent. If she foil highlights your hair...you are paying an average price for that service (in my area at least) I would definitely up your tip to 15 or 20 dollars.

frankly, your tip is embarrassing, a 10% MINIMUM is in order, whether you purchase products or not. 10-20% just like a restaurant tip, a SERVICE, depending on how good it is & the establishment. Since you are paying a whopping $125 for highlighting, this is an upper end salon, like an upper end restaurant, & I would never leave less then a $20 tip, which I would consider approriate. $5 just says you are cheap. The fact that she is the owner means nothing, she is the one providing the service.

I am previous salon owner & salon etiquette suggest the salon-owner also gets tipped. As in all service industries: 10% for mediocre service, 15% Average service, & 20% for above average service. On a $125 service, $25 is reasonable. And no, the owner does not pocket 100% of the service charged to the client.

A $5.00 tip on a $125 job is almost an insult. I have been told you tip your hair dresser the same as any other service person...ie. 15-20% My hair dresser charges $65 to $75 (depending how color crazy I get) and I always tip her at least $10.00.

I do not tip my hairdresser or my manicurest based on percentage of the services. I tip on service. If the charge for my hair is $100.00 and she did a great job (which she usually does), then I will tip $10.00. When I get my nails done, it is usually $20.00. I usually will tip her $3-$5, again based on if they look good or not. I do not think everything needs to be based on percentage. Hope that helps.

well it depends on how well you know the hairdresser and how pleased you are with the services rendered. A gratuity is meant to show the person that you appreciate what they've done above and beyond the requested price. In most cases you are overpayin' for the supplies just because the profit is already added into the price.
