The first American President was Washington, chosen unanimously (everyone voted for him) (didnt belive in parties), he was choosen a second time and claimed at the end of his term that no president should be choosen more than two times. After him came John Adams, a Federalist (The head of the Federalists was Hamilton, but he didn't suport Adams, and they didn't get along), then Thomas Jefferson was chosen 2 times, he was an old kind of Republican, who belived in a weak central government and strong state governments. Also Republicans at that time belived in a strick contruction of the constitution (the gov should only be allowed to do what is stated CLEARLY on the contitution), and belived on the common people (which included only white people with land). When he was chosen president he was forced to use the elastic claws a lot tho (For the Louisinana Purches for example)...... I could write some more if you like, but this is long enough already
