Because they fear it. They are afraid the Bible and God may actually be real and it sacres them, so they have to act immature. It's simple human nature to lash out at something they are afraid of.

I used to be a Christian. My father is a preacher and a chaplain. My answers on this site are against religion because I hope to maybe get some people to question what they believe. I stopped believing when I became interested in evolution. I read many books on it and then took some classes at my college.

I also realize how much every religion is alike and I see no reason why any one of them can be considered correct. Every Hindu and Buddhist and Muslim and Christian think that their religion is the right one. Isn't it more logical that none of them are correct and that they were invented to help people explain and come to terms with their world (like myths do). Now we have science that we use to explain the world, but many people still cling to the old ways of religion. I'm sorry to say this, but I personally think that most religious people don't look critically or think about what they believe and why. I think that many are just brought up to believe and go to church, so they do.

I wonder if a majority of these questions ARE written in a respectful and intelligent manner, but mistakenly come across as a challenge to a Christians' faith. When confronted with that situation, the faithful tend to become defensive, and claim to be attacked... when they actually just lack the answers or ability to debate religion themselves.

I'm not saying this applies to all religious folk. I have had debates with some that were rather open minded and full of information.

Hmm. I can see how the above answer may come across as rude and offensive, but it was just a statement. Nothin more.

Like this one, you mean? It's as stupid and insulting as any of the questions that you complain about, just like many of the the answers given by those claiming to be religious or spiritual people.

Things like...

You're gonna burn in hell, sinner!

SATAN!

All atheists are EVIL!

and amosunknown's comment right here on this very question -
"Without the spirit its nothing but words. Theyre only being natural."

This comment may sound fine to you and her, you agree with each other and it does not sound belligerant. BUT IT IS. It's a put down, it's insulting and condescending. Keep your own noses clean and maybe others will follow. As Christians as you claim, are you not supposed to be the good example for others to follow? Not everyone will, but should that make a difference in your own conduct? Have you noticed the number of thumbs down that amosunknown's answer has recieved? Why do you think that is? The level of maturity, biblical or any other wisdom, common sense, respect and civility to others shown by many of the "Christians" here is no greater than that of those that you complain about. If you're only here to find someone to pat you on the back and agree with you, please feel free to ignore all the complaints about your comments and just go on believing and acting as you always have, happy and content with yourself.

If only everyone was as intelligent as you are, we wouldn't still need teachers and preachers to teach us the Word. We would just stew away in our own interpretations and maybe cause a few terrorist attacks on the innocent or not.

By the way, stupidity is not a crime, but insulting others like this is. Especially on an international board where half of the users are not even from the same religion. Spare me the hysterics.

Look, buddy, I've read the freaking Bible over and over again, and I'll just say that it has little to do with this. People are disrespectful like that because they don't want to know any difference to what they already believe. The same goes for Christians. It's an natural hate thing, and everybody does it, even though they deny being hateful. Sorry. I just hate being called stupid just because I disagree with some things people say, and in my own actions choose to show why I hate them.

So calling people stupid, illiterate, incapable, (the list goes on) does not qualify as disrespectful?

I think one should ask why people ask such HYPOCRITICAL questions on yahoo - -yours ranks right up there.

Oh, and the Bible was deliberatly written in two dead languages - - -that is hardly and eigth grade reading level. . .

Simply because people try to be mean and rude to others....They think they can hurt people by using words. It's best just to look over the things you don't agree with. People are set in their ways and believe they are right so just stick with the good questions and ignore the ones that are hateful.

1 Corinthians 1:18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 19 For it is written: "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the understanding of the prudent I will annul." 20 Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? 21 For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, God was well pleased, through the foolishness of our preaching, to save those that believe. 22 For Jews request a sign, and Greeks seek after wisdom; 23 but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block, and to the Greeks foolishness, 24 but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.

2 Peter 3:3 knowing this first: that mockers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, 4 and saying, "Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers died, all things continue as from the beginning of creation." 5 For this they willingly forget: that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth, consisting out of water and through water, 6 by which the world at that time perished, being flooded by water; 7 but the present heavens and earth, having been stored up by His word, are being reserved for fire until the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.

I think most of those questions aren't concerned with the bible or spirituality in the least bit, rather the people who attempt to ram religion and spirituality down our throats... Maybe, just maybe we are capable of making our way without your freshman notions of the eternity and the big bad wolf...
