Just met a girl who got a degree in Japanese at university. would love to email her a sort message in Japanese. can anyone help translate English to Japanese?

I really wouldn't use an online translator for Japanese - the structure and syntax of the language is totally different to English, and Japanese also has different levels of politeness depending on the position of the person you're talking to compared to your own! The best thing to do would be to find a native Japanese speaker to translate, or failing that, why not just add some simple greetings to your message? Some examples are: konnichiwa (good afternoon), arigatoo gozaimasu (thank you) sumimasen (sorry/excuse me) and sayoonara (goodbye).

I know a bit of Japanese. But seeing as how we dont know eachother and probably wont ever get in touch, you might want to try an online translator.

No online translator is perfect. They come pretty close though. Remember to write out abbreveations, as most countries dont follow the same ones. If you wish, (which does help more) after your text has been translated, open a new window with the same page ready, copy the translated text and paste it in the new window's translator and convert it back to the original language. That usually tells you how off it is. Then you can re-word what you want to say until it matches the closest to what you want.

if she has a degree in Japanese, it will be obvious to her if you translate using a machine like Babelfish.
It's better to just speak your natural language and look normal than try stupidly to impress someone by pretending to know a language you actually know nothing about.

I don't know... I don't think it impresses girls so much that you know a little Japanese as that you know it because you wanted to impress her. You really want to impress her get yourself a Japanese girl friend. ha ha ha sorry I can't help it.
