These people here seem to think that the lowly "AVERAGE STUDENT" does not matter. I think the average student is the target the professor SHOULD be teaching to! So HELL YEAH, IT MATTERS!

If the ratings on ratemyprofessor.com says the guy isn't worth taking, then he isn't.

RateMyProfessor.com is based on the *opinions* of students. Usually the only people who use it are the ones who struggled in the class and blame the instructor (whether it was the instructor's fault or not). I wouldn't trust the information given there--tell your brother to just give the professor a fair chance and to form his own opinion about his or her teaching.

Only someone who either really loved or really hated a particular professor is going to make the effort to grade him or her on that site. So the results will often be skewed. However, the higher number of people who offer grades / comments for a single professor (more than ten), the more reliable you can assume the reporting is.

it doesnt necessarily mean that the professor IS of poor quality, but that is what the average student thinks- if you are still unsure, try to see if you can change classes.
if thats not possible, just remember, you can always learn something from another person, no matter what

no, usually it states the student's personal opinions of the professor, not their teaching ability
