Can you really get to know the "real" person on the other end of the phone if you only get to see them once every two months in person, and that is only for a few hours?

No, however, that doesn't mean that you shouldn't pursue the relationship. Just keep in mind that you really don't know this person as well as you may feel like you do. The real test of this person's character will be when whatever is keeping you apart no longer is and you can be together for real. That is when you will really get to know each other.

Absolutely not. Anyone can say whatever they want over the phone. They can project themselves to be whomever they want to be to anybody. You, however must use common sense in any situation such as this. You can even spend plenty of time with a person and not have a clue as to who they really are if their intentions were to mislead you.
When it comes to relationships and trust, don't be in such a rush to get involved. Always keep your eyes and ears WIDE open. Do not let a person's looks lead you astray. Use good judgment and love yourself first.

Its possible, thats how the first year of my so far 4 year relationship was. I also have a friend who had a year of only phone talking, they ended up meeting and have been doing great.
