I am as i never thought a sting ray would get him. It is quite unfortunate that it stung him close to the heart. Anywhere else and this wouldn't have happened.

I have watched and enjoyed Steve's nature shows in the past and I for one can say that he is the master of the croc. His death by one of nature's creatures is indeed shocking but considering that it is not one of those that he is familiar with, I can appreciate it though I'm very saddened.

Right now I'm just wondering if someone with his years of experience and expertise has not grown a little too confident of himself. I think he has committed a fatal mistake, and that is trusting that a wild animal will not react in a manner that will harm him. It's true that normally stingrays would try to avoid lashing out its tail but we have no idea exactly why this particular one did.

Time and again, we've heard of zoo keepers and lion trainers getting mauled, injured or killed despite the care that they have provided these creatures. What more of an animal that one has encountered for the first time, the unpredictable behaviour is the rule to follow in this case.

We shall always treasure Steve's legacy in the area of conservation and protection of wildlife and we will also remember that he passed away leaving us a very important lesson about the nature of the world around us.

I was! i knew that he wouldn't die from a croc. he was to much of an expert. I guess he truly loved his job especially since he was willing to die at it. he just had a baby too. he has a little girl at home right now probably shocked and so upset by his death, and probably doesn't know what it means to die. And the little baby will never grow up with a father, and he will never get to see his little baby grow up. he will never be a grandpa. So give them a break. everyone in the world watched that show at least once. he had the coolest accent. and now nobody will ever hear of the croc hunter again. Love and prayers to their family.

UI am so shocked that Steve Irwin was killed by a sting ray... I never really thought he was going to be killed.. but I assumed if he was it would have been a small very poisonous snake that would have done it. this is so shocking...

Steve Irwin was killed by a stingray, but I reckon that the crocs paid for the hit.

We have seen him doing so many dangerous things and having so many near misses, that you start to think his indestructible, but then a simple hit in the right place by a creature that's meant to be placid and that's it.

I love his programmes and the conservation message with them also the way the animals are treated in his zoo. He gave such a lot in such a small space of time.

God bless may he rest with the angels, and deepest sympathy to his family.

A great conservationist and one whose impact on this world would be missed. He did have a tendancy to play with danger, and it only takes the one mistake, so IMHO I am not surprised this happened. I didn't think he would die young though (he seemed so in control always) - this world is full of surprises...

A real shame.

I can picture the guy in Heaven explaining it wasn't the Stingray's fault and it was just he felt threatened. Seemed a nice guy.

I guess it was inevitable - when you put your life on the line day after day like he did the odds must have been stacked against him. But at least he died doing a job he loved not of old age or long term illness - I only hope that I'm as lucky!

i was shocked but not surprised always thought he`d get it as he took so many risks. But he died doing what he loved and has lived life to the full more in a month than most of us will in a lifetime.
