Ok Here is the scenerio

1. You are 31 years old with a wife/husband and 2 kids

2. Your mom is going to to die from cancer in the next few years she is 50.

So knowing that one day you decide to go hiking in a rocky area with many cliffs for a joyful afternoon.

Suddenly you find yourself falling down a cliff side and in your last chance to save yourself from the deadly fall you grab a ledge and hold on. Minutes pass and your strength is wearing thin in your last moments you scream out, "Please anyone HELP ME!"

Seconds later a shadow appears and tells you this.

1. Your chances of surving the fall without my help are 5% and with it they are 85%.

2. However he tells you there is a 88% chance he can save your mother from cancer and she will live for 40 more years but and only a 30% chance your life will be saved from the fall.

What do you do?

I never would have went hiking by myself with no way to contact anyone in case of emergency in the first place. But in reply--first of all: I would tell the devil to go back to hell and take his temptation with him. Whether or not I lived or my mother lived would be God's decision. God or His angels would never ask you such a question. Second: those figures are a little off. Chances for surviving the fall w/o help are 5% and with it are 85%? That doesn't make much sense. If this shadowy figure were actually going to help, why would you fall at all? Those numbers only add up to 90%...if I were to gamble with my life, I want better odds. OK so if I make that 5% chance and survive the fall, there's a 30% chance I'll be so injured I'll die anyway before anyone finds me? I may just be utterly confused because I'm sick but this makes no friggin sense to me. I'll stick to my first answer then :)

My mother died of cancer so if I had a chance to save her I would throw myself off the cliff if I thought it would let her live even for one more day.

Woooo...... Tough Question ........ :-(

The preferred choice answer really has to be depended on one's philosophy of life.

Given the current situation, it is more pragmatic to opt for choice answer 1 because by saving yourself, you are providing a means to the livelihood of your family well-being, that is, medical treatment for your mom, education for your children and allowances for your wife to manage the household expenses and so on. In addition, by choosing choice answer 1, your mom still gets to live for a few years, who knows, during that year, a miracle break-through in cancer treatment and your mom gets to live longer as expected.

Simple i would save myself. If i saved my mum she would not live long with the guilt of knowing her son had died saving her - regardless of the cancer. The same way that i would die for my children, but i would not want them to die for me.

The guilt of knowing that i had sacrificed my mother would be hard to deal with, but most parents worst nightmare is to outlive there children in most cases, and to know that there child sacrificed there life to save them would be to much of a burden for any normal parent to live with.

Save myself. When it is time for someone to die, then they will. Nothing can prevent death.
Alos, what if I die, and so my mother survives?
Sucks for me b/c I will never get to enjoy the extra years given to her.

I would save myself. That would be what my mom would want so I could raise my children. Now I love my mom but I can almost bet that she wouldnt let me save her if it caused my death.

Save yourself. You have two kids. Your mother would've saved herself for you when you were a little one.
