It would depend on what type of food you are feeding.
Read the bag and see what the recommend amount is for the weight of your dog and adjust it from that.
Some need more food. I had one male who was 100 pounds and he ate about 1 cup more than the recomended amount for his whole life as he was very active and seemed to burn it off and get skinny if I only feed him what was on the bag.
With pups they go throught a gangley stage and look sort of out of propotion but they get over that. You need to be able to see a light out line of ribs on an adult dobe.
