Since racism and cultural bias is rampant here still in 2006, after all of the pain and suffering to change things - when you abandon even the knowledge and label of who you are, you have set yourself up to be forever a victim to a ruthless, insecure, repugnant element from the majority. And that majority will not excise those elements on your behalf. Secretly they probably enjoy watching and hearing the abuse of this uncivilized element of their culture because it makes them feel superior about themselves as well. Knowing who you are and where you've been helps to level the playing field. You cant refute negative mis-information if you don't have a knowledge of self.
I am amazed at the raw and vigorous racism on this website for no good reason - just to be mean and contemptible. They don't seem to care that the world sees the ugly American in action. Since people from all over the world come to this website. You have the right idea but until the majority abandons their practice of racial insensitivity - you're just setting yourself up to be a sitting duck.
When the day comes(and it will occur) that they become a minority they will wish that they had implemented and promoted a colorblind society because they may then become victimized too.

Not everybody is proud to be an American. Remember that Americans are a melting pot of all nationalities. Lots of Irish, lots of Italians, Mexicans, *****'s. Every nation is proud to be called by its original name.

Are you the nice guy for the day?
I can't say I disagree, it's just that this moment will pass and in the next question people will be out to kill each other again in the name of nationalities and ethnicities! I'm always a nice guy!

Sounds good to me! Even better, why not just call us all people? Should it really matter where we live anymore than what color, race or religion we are? The Golden Rule makes no distinctions. "Do unto others that which you would wish them to do unto you."

NO, when you say Americans you say we should all be the same as white people. All other groups should do everything whites do, then no. No other groups living here want to stop being who they are to be like others. Blacks, Indians, Asians, Mexican are different people until we realize that they DO NOT want to be like white Americans, we would be better off. Those groups do not share the same views, culture, or customs.
The fact is their is no problem with people who want to be different than others, they are not the problem. The problem is those that want others to change to please someone else.

Because I like my different ethnic backgrounds.
I'm still a PROUD American but i LIKE my French and Argentinean backgrounds, traditions, customs and roots and am PROUD AS HELL to acknowledge it, along with being an American.
Its important to know and be proud of where you and your family has come from.
