Im a new mom of a 2-month old baby boy. I've read about sleep training and i find it funny, really. Is it good for the baby? Seems my son doesnt want to sleep all day and will sleep late in the evening. I will still consider him infant so he should be sleeping 17 hours in every 24 hours based on the book I've read. how come this is not the case for my baby? help

Quit trying to compare your baby to a book..all babies are different and if the book does not state that, then I would not consider it a good book at all. Your baby grows in his sleep, but you can train him to go down at certain times. He needs stimulation during his wake hours. That can be hand, foot, and baby body massages, they are really good before a bath...he can be learning so many things just by sounds, and since his eyes are still developing the toys with black, white, and red are good he can learn to grab the soft toys, which is a part of his sensory development and motor skill development. Mobiles are great and a blanket on the floor with the toys overhead are good too, because eventually he will be trying to roll over, push up, etc...

From 4pm until 8pm he needs to be awake, this will help you to get a bed time routine down for him. I started with both of my sons as early as i could. At 8pm every night, we had our bath time, story time, bedtime bottle(with a little cereal to help keep the tummy full), burping, and to bed...with soft music in the background. Do not worry that he is not sleeping enough in the day hours, your focus should be him sleeping through the night. Mine were sleeping through the night by 6 weeks...it was great!!!!

If he is not doing certain motor skills or mile stones by the normal age set by the doctors, then i would worry, and talk to your doctor, it sounds like you just have a good baby that doesn't want to miss anything!!!

No two individuals are the same and therefore your child may be a bit different but all the same he is normal and active. Forget about his sleep pattern. If he is feeding well and is active and is growing, then stop worrying. There must be many other things now in your life which would be requiring your concern.

Follow your child's lead and PLEASE never leave him to cry himself to sleep. Infants cry to communicate. Crying it out is cruel!
