I am 19 years old and I have just discovered that having sex before marriage is wrong. So I have started questioning my other beliefs. Checking if I am on the right track. What everyone does doesn't make it right.

In hinduism, there is restraint on your sexual urges for the first quarter of your life.

That is if you are to live a 100 human years, then 25 of your first years, from baby to age 25 should be spent celibate when you are supposed to be building your body and mind, going to school and just becomeing adult.

Sexuality in hinduism is very important but not as public as in other societies. Sex is important as there are instructions and rituals on it but watching **** would be considered a major sin.

How disgusting to watch other people have sex. That is how hinduism would see it.

Sex is important but not liberal and multiple partners are looked down on although it happens.

Leave alone Hinduism, no religion approves pre-marital sex or adultery. This is because things which are wrong, will always be wrong and the right things will always be right. You can prove a wrong thing as right by using logic, but it remains wrong only. For example, it is possible to prove any numeric value equal to any other number (say 2=5, 7=12 and so on) using simple mathematical formula, but you can't change their actual values. It is human nature to justify a wrong-doing in self defence using all sorts of logical excuses but nothing can change the reality. If you ask "how to distinguish right from wrong?", then consult your conscience or the 'inner self' - the greatest gift of the Creator to to guide us in all situations. If you are sincere in seeking the guidance of your conscience, you will always get the correct direction. However, to be able to communicate with your "inner self", you need to practise sincerely. Try it and you will succeed. This will change your thinking from "what everyone does, doesn't make it right" to "Right things are always right".

Now about watching ****. If you do this, your mind will get polluted and you will not be able to control yourself. Finally, you will end up doing what you wanted to avoid. If, however, your will-power is strong enough to keep you unaffected by the ****, you can take a chance.

I would still suggest you to avoid doing all this and keep control over your thoughts and desires till you are married to enjoy your life!

I was interested in answering this question and was wondering how i was going to summarize a lot of things in a simple answer. That's when I read Pranesh81's answer. He's got it right - Bingo ! Perfect interpretation of the religion.

There is nothing "right" or "wrong" in Hinduisim. Only habits that lead you smoothly towards salvation (Yoga, Pranayama, chanting mantras, doing your Dharma, Karma .....etc) and those that will cause you and others around you pain and take you far far way from salvation / peace.

The rigid underlying principle in Hinduism is that you and only you are responsible for your actions and the results thereon. Understand that responsibility, and consequences of your actions or thought and act accordingly.

The single mighty tool given to you is your conscience - it will never lead you to do or think something that will cause you pain later. Ask your conscience and more importantly listen to it. It will always lead you towards peace. Inner peace which is nirvana.

yes and no.

It depends on your attitude. I am Hindu, and I'll tell you what I know about it.

Yes, it is ok to watch p0rn if you are able to keep your thoughts clean. If you could keep yourself unattached (anaasakt, in sanskrit) from what is going on in front of you, there is no problem in watching it. That's why you have temples dedicated to sex. Khajuraho for example. They are full of sexual postures. But mind it...they are not p0rno temples. They are for the people who can look at such things, and stay aloof.

Watching p0rn is not ok, if you cannot practise self restraint. If you cannot stay unattached, then it is wrong to watch p0rn. Aasakti or attachment with anything causes pain. Be it your bicycle, be it your guitar, or be it p0rn. If you start taking pleasure in it, if you get attached to it, it will give you pain, and that is not good.

So...it depends on your attitude. And given the lesser beings we are, I don't think we can stay aloof of watching p0rn. We actually watch p0rn to get affected...to get a high...that's the whole point of watching p0rn, for us. And that's why the whole emphasis is on making it taboo.

I know it will only confuse you regarding the decision whether or not to watch p0rn. But remember, Hinduism also says that the decision of practises finally boils down to the practitioner. You may go ahead and watch p0rn...you may restraint yourself. You are the judge for yourself. My personal advice is, if you ever decide to watch p0rn, follow what Buddha said, "Take the medium path...don't overdo". That's the least you can do as a young lad of 19, and being very curious. Educate yourself with discipline. Don't get addicted.
Good Luck!

my dear friend you have been reached into that stage that you have developed strong sexual desire now. a persons thought ,his activities continues in the life so at this age you are inclined towards sex because of your past life decisions.
it is not good to have sex with anybody without marriage .this rule is made in religions for the better life of human being so that he should not suffer with any problem .like desiese, your social image, a bad inspiration for your younger generation, your career...so many things
now it is upto you what do you want in your life. you want to have experiment with the sex first , or you want to make your career first because i think it is difficult to pursue both if possible than you have to compromise ie you can not touch the highness in your career because you have the fix time to devote for career from which you have to devote sometime for wife
try to control first. if you have crossed the limit and you can not control that than please please please tell your parents straightforwads that i want to get marry first than i can do anything
watching **** is the begining of the desire to have sex , if you will continue definetely you will reach for sex no body can stop it
so get marry or leave everything ,and think about your career

My dear boy, why you are talking about only Hindu?
This sexual attraction towards other gender is a natural phenomenon. You can this see this nature in all living things. You don't see what dogs do, other animals do, other birds do, they start to having sex since the onset of maturity in their body. Our ancestors (early men) were also like this. But it had created a lot of nuisance among human. GOD HAS GIVEN SPECIAL THINKING POWER TO HUMAN BRAIN IN COMPARISON TO OTHER ANIMALS ON EARTH. Then man started to modify their life, like, age to mix-up with opposite gender, one who gives birth has been considered as mother and mother has given respective position in the family and society, and who will be a sister, a brother and , like so on.
May I want to describe more?

Buddy, watching **** is not at all wrong or anything until you're able to keep yourself undercontrol, watch **** or do whatever you want, it is your personal thing. And regarding having sex is not wrong as long as you forget it and be truthful to your wife after marriage. So go ahead and enjoy your life and dont care abt other things such as religion and as such

Watching porns will eventually poison your mind with more sexual cravings. The mind once poisoned will do evil deeds, whether sexual or otherwise, which leads to more pains and suffering. Moreover, it will decrease your appetite for spiritual growth which is the founation of all human existences.
