All kinds of places, specifically on jet airplanes (hence the adjective "Jet") Also used in the very aft end of a jet airplane, the APU or Auxiliary Power Unit, that's the whiny jet noise you hear when you get on a plane. It's used as a generator to run the electricity so you have things like air conditioning etc. while you are on the ground. Helicopters have them as well as there's a guy in California that installed one in his VW new Beetle. Very cool.

Obviously jets also the following ships, tanks, helicopters ,cars generators, basically anywhere you can use a engine a jet engine has been used there. Even a turbo prop is a jet with a propeller stuck on it. Jets are even used to clean race tracks and dry off contaminated vehicles in chemical environments. These engines can be used anywhere.

The powerplant in which I work has a HUGE jet engine which turns a generator to produce electricity. The heat from the exhaust gases is then used to boil water to run a steam turbine turning another generator to produce even more electricity.
