i never really thought i was "depressed" because i never really thought about hurting myself, but lately i've been having the lowest self esteem ever, all i ever want to do is be alone, i never want to hang out with people anymore i'll have plans, then ditch them because i feel like just staying home, and i cry over the littlest things, i was always a little shy but now it's pathetic..is this "depression?"

Some of the symptoms of Major Depressive Disorder include: inability to enjoy the things that used to bring you pleasure, a change in your appetite (increase OR decrease), difficulty sleeping, feeling tired all the time, muscle aches and pains, easy crying, feelings of sadness, loss of self worth, guilt. In order to meet the strict definition of the disease, you need to have had the symptoms for 2 weeks or more, and it can't be related to a recent traumatic event in your life, like a death in the family.

What you're describing definitely sounds like Depression. Why don't you go see a doctor and talk about therapy. However, I would strongly encourage you to NOT just accept a pill, but to take some action yourself. Find someone you can trust to talk to about your feelings. Start exercising - just a little everyday, like walking around the block. Do one thing a week that is just for yourself. Eat regular, nutritious meals. On top of all that, you may benefit from an anti-depressant, if your doctor feels you meet the criteria. Good luck.

Whats weighing you down? is it personal to yourself, something in the past, or just people?

If anything is bothering you, you just have to look at the bright side of it, I mean, as long as you were born normal, have food to eat and are healthy. then just make a little quarantine for all the bad things and put it in there and just forget. Move on with life, after that you can start stealing back, and just never, NEVER, doubt yourself.. there's no reason to feel that way, nobody is just randomly chosen to be that way..

I know, it's easier said then done, but trust me, only time can tell, and it's not impossible, you just have to believe in yourself and love you for who you are, have faith, it just takes time. Nobody is perfect, everyone feels like this sometime, you're not alone.

stay safe, and take it easy,

with best hopes, Deren

yes its depression. don't worry though it will pass. perhaps you should talk to a counsellor or even a family member you trust. you be surprised how much help you can get by simply talking.
