Nelson Vails won a medal in the '84 Olympics.
Anyway, it sounds like an opportunity for a talented endurance athlete. Until recently there were no black golfers to speak of, and the Williams girls, although not the first black tennis players sure made a big splash in a predominantly white sport.

Shaums March is a pro mountain biker. Historically, do some research on Major Taylor and Nelsen Vails. Taylor was the 1899 World Champion, and Vails won a silver medal in the Olympics. March races mainly downhill, but designs race courses and you'll see him in extreme mountain bike videos.

There is no particular reason that I can see. It's not that there aren't any, it's just that they don't make up a large portion of cyclists.

I suppose you could cite socioeconomic reasons, i.e. bikes are expensive, and in bad neighborhoods would just get stolen. Or you could chalk it up to the "cool" factor. How many black youths are encouraged to become a pro bike racer instead of football, basketball or bodybuilding?

Maybe it's just the exposure factor. There aren't a lot of black hockey players or NASCAR drivers, either.
