They are out there risking their lives for you everyday, yet people treat them like trash. Yes, they stop you for breaking the law, yeah i know you were only going 10 over but thats still a violation. Police officers take bullets for civilians, yet people still call them pigs. The truth is they have the most dangerous job out there and they do it for a low salary and bad hours. Only a criminal would talk down about them. A law abiding citizen has nothing bad to say about them. Who do you call when someone breaks into your home, who do you call when youve been attacked, who do you call when your life is in danger? You call the cops.

You call the cops. Also, you talk about crooked cops like its a regular thing. Most cops arent crooked, and when youve been around drug dealers and gangsters for a long time you tend to stereotype people who wear gang tags and look shady. Most cops arent rascist either, and they dont shoot people in the back. People just want to think that to further their hatred.

People have been watching too many movies, most cops are crooked, actually they arent many crooked cops. Also, jjust because a police officer hasnt taken a bullet for you doesnt mean they wouldnt. And if you think police falsify evidence you obviously are putting a higher value on your life or the life of the alleged "victim of the crime" than its actually worth. If you think cops are out to get random people. The only time they would ever do that is if they know the person is guilty and they cant prove it and its a high priority case, which i doubt anyone here is. Also people complain about the traffic tickets, here's an idea, dont speed if you cant afford the ticket. Cops wont give you a ticket if your not speeding.

Police are just a good scapegoat for the immature precentage of the population that cant take responsiblity for their own actions. Yes, there are bad cops, but how many of you have ever know a coworker that was arrested? 99% of police work their entire careers with no problems; and, the media feeds like sharks on the other 1%. Ninety percent of the public comes into contact with us either as victims of crime, or for minor traffic violations the other 10% are the criminals that we deal with day after day over and over again. So for all the ones who whine about how bad we are and how unfair we are...that usually means you are part of the 10%

Before I write this, I want to say that I don't hate cops. I tend to trust people in autority positions, probably more than I should. But I grew up in an afluent family, went to a private school, and have definitely never been in trouble for anything worse than a speeding ticket (which I very much deserved).
The reason people hate cops is that, while the job of a good cop is to protect innocent people and prevent peopel from breaking the law, there are a lot of dirty cops out there who will pull people while they're driving, and even beat the crap out of them, because of the color of their skin, because they "look" like a gangster or a drug dealer, or any number of other reasons. And they get away with it because they're cops. Because people (like me) tend to assume that the guy with the badge is the one telling the truth. And because they people who are supposed to stop them are also cops and tend to stick up for their own.
For a middle class white kid who's never caused much trouble, I have nothing bad to say about cops from my personal experience. But I've heard plenty of stories about cops not believing a rape victim because she's an alcoholic, beating up innocent people, not removing kids from an abusive home (the kids ended up at the bottom of the Bay), blaming the victim of a shooting because he's a black kid from the projects. Just hearing about those things makes me hate the individuals who did them. Not having lived it lets me separate those individuals from the cops who aren't corrupt or incompetent. If you've grown up in a world where it's assumed that you're a criminal just because you're a poor black teenage, whether you do anything wrong or not, you're gonna hate anyone who wears the uniform.

People do not hate the police. They hate what the police represent... the fact that everybody cannot be trusted to not do things that would infringe on the rights of others. If everybody could be trusted to act responsibly, then society would not need the police. People just think that they hate the police when in reality they hate the need for a mechanism that will regulate society.

I used to have a problem with them but I do now have respect for them .. MOST of them. It's just that some are really corrupt and crooked.
Plus I hate the ones that talk to you with attitude when you haven't done anything. I was stopped just for walking out of our house my boyfriend was waiting for me at the end of the alley we were walking to school and they just started yelling at us that we were doing graffiti but it was daylight and we were just catching the bus to go to college. He's been stopped like 3 times for no reason and I have been stopped 2 times for no reason. I'm white I dress normal and I've never broken the law! My boyfriend is Mexican but he dresses normal and doesn't do anything wrong. That's why some people don't like cops because they don't like people telling them they did something wrong when they didn't.
And I don't like the ones that shoot racial minorities/kids. I've heard of a cop that shot a 13 year old hispanic boy who was driving a car in a parking lot. Another one happened that same week he was like 14 there was some sort of domestic disturbance between same nieghbors and somehow they shot him. Neither kid had any weapons. Both died. This was in Houston both in the same week a couple of years ago.
I heard of another cop that "thought" he was grabbing his taser and instead he grabbed his gun and he killed the guy (also Hispanic) who was in the backseat of the car.

It's the same theory as hating the parent that makes you follow the rules. Nobody wants to, so they blame the people who make them. That, and because all you hear on the news is how another crooked cop was popped. You never hear about the good ones.

I don't hate cops, but when they're driving behind me, I get REAL nervous! One ticket can wipe out half to 2/3 my wages for the month. And a lot of courts won't let you make payments,, they'll just make you serve time.
Rich people can afford a ticket so they can drive like morons fearlessly. I think if fines were based on income (IE:half your income like it is for poor people) Rich jerks would slow the heck down and not drive like they are exempt from the law.
Another reason some people hate cops (like a close friend of mine does) Is that him, like others have been falsely accused of crimes. My friend was pulled over because he drove through a high drug traffic neighborhood. Because he had a drug violation on his record from when he was 19, the cops basically tore his car apart and somehow miraculously found an alleged "crack rock" on the floor of his car.
Let me tell you,, crack addicts WOULD NOT drop a rock without finding it. They'd more than likely saw off thier d*ck than lose a precious rock.
Well,, they claimed the rock was real when they tested it but refused to show the lab proof. He spent 30 days in the county jail, and was later aquitted because the Cleveland police were unable to produce the proof that the alleged "crack rock" was real.
He didn't get convicted of the false charges, but he still spent 30 days in jail for doing nothing wrong except getting off the wrong exit on the freeway.
Thats why some hate cops!

What about the innocent people who get arrested wrongly? You should research the recent case in the Dallas Police department where officers use crumbled up sheet rock and said it was cocaine to convict multiple suspects, the officers were later investigated and the " criminals " released from jail.........are those the cops we should respect? not all are bad but it only takes a few bad apples to spoil the bunch........

I have never had a good experience with a police officer. I have never been in any trouble or to jail or anything, but every encounter I have had with a police officer, they always are real jerks.
