Leviticus 20:13 If a man lies with a male, as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.

The Bible, in Genesis, in chapters one and two, provides God's blueprint for marriage and for His good gift of sex. The gift is only to be enjoyed within a marriage between a man and a woman. There are no exceptions suggested, such as homosexual partnerships. From Genesis on, the Bible praises the marriage of a man and a woman, but it speaks only negatively of homosexual behavior whenever it is mentioned.

The Old Testament states, "Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable" (Leviticus 18:22 and 20:13). The New Testament agrees, listing "homosexual offenders" among a list of people who "will not inherit the kingdom of God" unless they are cleansed through Christ (1 Corinthians 6:9-11). Other passages are Genesis, chapter 19; Romans 1:18-32; 1 Timothy 1:8-11; Jude, verse 7. However, it is important to note that the Bible speaks only of homosexual behavior (which would include lust—choosing to fantasize about behavior), not unchosen feelings. God will not judge a Christian guilty for his or her involuntary feelings.

Sometimes it is said that the Bible does not record any words of Jesus about homosexuality, and therefore it must be acceptable to God. However, the Bible does not record sayings of Jesus about a number of other specific sins either. When people asked Jesus about marriage, He told them to remember what Genesis said about God's plan for marriage (Matthew 19:1-12). So, in this sense, Jesus did have something to say about homosexual partnerships. If people had asked Him, He would have told them to remember what God said about marriage in Genesis. God only blessed sex within the committed marriage relationship of a man and a woman.

Some have tried to reinterpret what the Bible says, in an effort to approve homosexual relationships. For a reply to such efforts, read "Straight and Narrow" by Thomas Schmidt or "A Strong Delusion" by Joe Dallas. Leviticus 18:22

The Bible verses quoted in the above answers have been ripped from both their literary and historical context. Sodom and Gomorrah were not destroyed because of homosexuality, they were destroyed (according to Genesis) because the people there were found to be wicked, not because they were gay but rather, in the end, because they were bent on gang rape (which is completely different from consensual, mutual, loving sex).

The Leviticus passages do condemn homosexuality. However, Leviticus also prohibits, wearing clothing made of blended fabric, not to have sex with a woman during her menstrual cycle, to leave the remnants of one's field for the poor and alien, not to hate any of your kin, to rise before the aged and defer to the old, not to cross breed cattle, that all who curse mother and father should be put to death, adulterers should be put to death, etc. As it relates to homosexuality, if we use the passages to condemn homosexuals, then we should equally condemn everything listed in Leviticus, including those who wear cotton/polyester blend shirts. It is a matter of consistency.

The N.T. passages concerning homosexuality has its own problems. This post is getting long, and this is a technical and long argument, but I'll be as brief as I can. Basically, the two Greek words that are translated as 'homosexual' (malakos, arsenokoites) do not necessarily mean homosexual. No one is exactly sure of what they mean. It seems clear that they refer to sexual immorality of some sort (malakos is also used to refer to men who behave like women, which, in its historical context would include men who hang out with women, do the house work, take primary responsibility for raising the children, crying in public, etc.). However, we cannot be sure if consensual, loving relationships would be included under these two Greek terms. It isn't as black and white as it would appear. In my own opinion, there is too much gray area in the Biblical text to be condemning anyone. It would serve the church well to listen to the stories of the gay community instead of turning a deaf ear to them, which has unfortunately been the case historically. A little humility is needed on both sides of the issue, although, more grace needs to come from the conservative side which at this point has a stranglehold on the power of the church.

Genesis 18:20 Then the LORD said, "The outcry of Sodom and Gomorrah is so great and their sin so grevious that I will go down and see if what they have done is as bad as the outcry that has reached me. If not, I will know. The men turned and went to Sodom.
19:1-5 The two angels arrived at Sodom in the evening and Lot was sitting in the gateway of the city. When he saw them he got up and bowed down with his face to the ground. My lords, he said please turn aside to your servants house. You can wash your feet and spend the night and in then go on your way in the morning No they answered we will spend the night in the square. But he insisted so strongly that they did go with him and entered the house. He prepared a meal for them baking bread without yeast, and they ate. Before they had gone to bed all the men from every part of the city of Sodom - both young and old - surrounded the house. They called out to Lot, "Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out that we may have sex with them"

Leviticus 18:22 Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman that is detestable.

Leviticus 20:13 If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman both of them have doen what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood be on their heads.

Romans 1:26-27 Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts, Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men and recieved in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.

1 Corinthians 6:9 Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be decieved: Neither the sexually immoral nor the idolaters, nor adulterers, nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor theives nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.

HI there. Here is one example, although you'll find it is best to read the entire chapter and maybe the next 2 chapters to get the context. You'll find hope in Chapter 8. :)
Take care,
Kris

Romans 1:26-27 (Amplified Bible)

For this reason God gave them over and abandoned them to vile affections and degrading passions. For their women exchanged their natural function for an unnatural and abnormal one,

And the men also turned from natural relations with women and were set ablaze (burning out, consumed) with lust for one another--men committing shameful acts with men and suffering in their own [a]bodies and personalities the inevitable consequences and penalty of their wrong-doing and going astray, which was [their] fitting retribution.

What does the Bible say?

The Bible, as God's word, reveals God's moral character and it shapes
the moral character of the Christian. There have been those who have used
the Bible to support homosexuality, taken verses out of context and reading
into them scenarios that are not there. Quite simply, the Bible condemns
homosexuality as a sin. Let's look at what it says.

1.. Lev. 18:22, "You shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female;
it is an abomination."
2.. Lev. 20:13, "If there is a man who lies with a male as those who lie
with a woman, both of them have committed a detestable act; they shall
surely be put to death. Their bloodguiltness is upon them."
3.. 1 Cor. 6:9-10, "Or do you not know that the unrighteous shall not
inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor
idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals1, 10nor thieves,
nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, shall inherit
the kingdom of God."
4.. Rom. 1:26-28, "For this reason God gave them over to degrading
passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is
unnatural, 27and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function
of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men
committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty
of their error. 28And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any
longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are
not proper."
