Is it possible it got hold of a toad. Toads have mucus that makes dogs foam.
Also foaming at the mouth is a late stage of Rabies I think.

Also foaming at the mouth is a late stage of Rabies I think. Is he hot or has he been running around? Could he have eaten something...like a plant or food, other than dog food? Or could he have licked up something that spilled...such as soap? If it doesn't stop soon or his behavior changes, take him to the vet. alot of foam or alittle? Was he licking himself right before you noticed? And no he doesnt have rabies but he might of ate something. Get him to drink some water and then if he is still foaming at the mouth take him to the vet. have you checked the inside of his mouth to see if perhaps
he has a piece of stick or a bone lodged in there somewhere??
Is it a lot of foam??? Color???
Not enough info for me If it is hot, he may be overheated. Another possibility is he has injested some type of poison. Try cooling him down first with a cool bath and cool water. If he is still foaming, go to the vet! Is he an intact male? Some of these guys catch a scent in the Jacobs organ and try to hold it. They drool and chomp their teeth a little and that will make the drool foamy. Toads or something bitter tasting will cause the same thing. Rabies is highly unlikely but possible. But you mentioed no other behavioral changes. my best friend has a lab and everytime we go to feed it or its hungry, it starts foming at the mouth. No rabies, just hungry. Is it possible it got hold of a toad. Toads have mucus that makes dogs foam.

I doubt it's rabies because your dog would be acting aggressive and erratic.
How old is he? If he's between 6-12 months, he may just be teething.
Continue to monitor his behavior and unless he does something unusually aggressive, assume it's nothing more than a puppy teething or even just plain old hunger. Give him a bone or something else you don't care about for the teething part.

It can be caused by problems with teeth, gums or tongue, because something is caught in mouth or throat, because it has ingested something that tasted bitter or had a bad taste, because it ingested something toxic, because it has an upset stomach, etc..as you can see there are a number of things that could cause the problem so it would be wise to take him to the vet to find out exactly what the cause is.

My Chow foams at the mouth when he smells the ground where a female dog has peed. Other than that I would check with your vet.

You want to make sure the dog has not been poisoned, or is getting into something that is poisonous. Also; there is a dog illness called "Parvo" that strikes dogs that will make them do that. I would have the dog checked out by a Vet! Don't wait until it's too late!
