The serpent biting it's own tail is called Ouroboros (also spelled Oroborus, Uroboros or Uroborus).

The body of the snake is usually formed into a circle, but can also be shown as a figure eight.

I would say it would equal the eternity symbol, the mobius strip. It may have been called something else.
