I'm an avid jalapeno lover. The heat is caused by the peppers natural oils. If the burn is in your eyes, DO NOT RUB IT!!! If it's in your mouth, almost any kind of bread will soak up the oils that now coat your mouth. If it's out your backside, nothing to do but read a book and sit on the throne and wait.

I feel your pain!!! This was only the second time ever that I have cut my own jalapenos up and boy was I in misery! I tried all the remedies; milk, vinegar, rubbing alcohol...but the only thing that took the burn totally away was slathering my hands several times with BURT'S BEES BUTTERMILK LOTION. It worked like a charm! If I'm ever dumb enough to do it without gloves again, which I don't think I will be, I'll be sure to have a bottle of that on hand!!!

Camptart is exactly right. Also, if it's on your hands, it is absolutely okay to wear gloves next time you cook w/ jalapenos! Idplantem is sort of right--milk is good, but horchata, while delicious, is made from rice and almonds, not milk.

Doing nothing is the best thing. Any liquid you drink will always make the process longer.

Anything with a grease or fat content in it. Fried foods, milk, peanut butter, meats, etc. Good luck!

Drink some fresh lemon juice in water,as strong as you can take it, the acid is better at neutralising your body than something alkali

Milk or cream actually spreads the heat, and coats your mouth with it due to the fat content. The best way is to drink something sour or sweet.
