I don't have a death wish. But it is not a matter of being better to live or to die for your beliefs, but rather how do you live while you ARE alive. Did you complete your destiny--your mission---your purpose for which God created you.
Everyone has a destiny to fullfill, a unique mission that only they can fill. Jesus completed his mission when he said 'It is finished', then he died--- a young man. I have to believe that Mother Theresa completed her mission too at her advanced age. But only she and God really know that, because only God knows specifically why he created her.
My dad is 80 years old. He has been a retired missionary for 10 years at least, but he keeps going back---'just one more time' to finish that one last thing that he perceives as being undone. He keeps going because it's in his blood, in his veins, it's hardwired in his brain...it's in his heart. He was a missionary long before he ever set foot in a foreign country. It's his purpose. And he's fortunate, because he has found out what his purpose is, and has worked with it (even through many years of obsticles).
If I can complete my purpose, my mission in life, the thing for which I was created, then it's not that important when I die. It doesn't matter so much whether I'm very old or relatively young. It's much more important HOW I live, rather than how long.
Of course, I love life, and a long life is a good thing. It is mentioned in scriptures as being a blessing from God to have a long life. So I hope for a long fruitful life that leaves a legacy of hope and love and perserverance through troubles.
Hoping the best for you...

Jesus did the will of the Lord. He taught us the way to live. He taught us how to worship. He healed the sick and the lame. How could you compare the work of the Son of God to a woman on earth? Mother Theresa would probably laugh at this one.

Jesus died for OUR sins...
Jesus saved the WORLD...
Mother Theresa followed Jesus' teachings and did what she could for others...
I try to live my religion.. and I hope that if need be.. I will die for them also.

If you want to die for your beliefs, go right ahead. I personally will stand here and hope to God that I never will be put in that situation...I would hope I have that courage to say yes, but torture? WOW I can't even handle a needle, let alone what the Saints went through!

Christ fulfilled scripture because He was scripture. There is no comparison. Christ was the Word that became flesh and dwelt among us that was always with God from the beginning and returned to God.
Jesus Christ is the "I AM" or God Himself in a visible body.
"For in him dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily."
-- Colossians 2:9
"Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?"
-- John 14:9
"Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you Before Abraham was, I AM."
-- John 8:58

I live by my beliefs but if the time came and I had to make a decision to turn from Christ to live I would definitely die instead.

Sometimes one does not have a choice. If you're put in a position where you have to lie, or do something awful, just to save your skin... then you're not living for your beliefs.

this might be weird, but i remember one of Tupacs songs he wrote before they killed him, in it, it said i rather live and go to hell than die and go to heaven. I think God punished him for saying such things. You never know when your going to die, the most important thing i think is getting saved from hell, at what ever cost.
