My Dr. just switch me from Dexedrine 5mg to Adderall XR 10mg. I’ve taken it for three days, and here is what I’m feeling.

1)Feeling physically slow and mentally dull; I’d stayed home and did not go out of my apt. for the past 3 days.

2)Finally remembered that if I don’t eat soon, I will die; so I got out and search for food. While driving, people stare at me but I made it a point not to stare back, feeling somewhat paranoid at that moment. When ordering for food, my voice was no longer commanding; but instead, it was squeaky and somewhat weak and hesitant.

3)When people were getting annoyed about the way I was acting, it made me emotional and wanted to cry. This was not normal.

Will these side effects go away? How long does it take your body to adjust to the meds? If this keeps going, I will have to switch back to good old Dexedrine.

I hear good things about Adderall XR. Will the side effects go away soon? Or is it normal for Adderall to make feel this way. Please help.

It took me 2 years of use to realize that Adderall XR is the devil. Honestly man, the stuff is NOT for everyone. My mother does well with it, but me and my sister did not do well with it at all. The difficult thing is you will voice these concerns and professionals will be like "Oh don't worry, its normal, they will subside." I'm willing to guess your doctor has attempted to comfort you by explaining that there is no evidence of negative long-term effects. Thats because the drug is only a few years old! We are the guinea pigs! There is a reason why Adderall is so difficult to get and why the FDA is so close to banning it altogether. Its very addictive and potentially dangerous. Think about it, does it make sense to treat a hyperactive brain with a stimulant? No wonder you're paranoid. Heres what happened to me as far as short term and long term effects:
1. Went from already underweight to seriously underweight when the Adderall killed my appetite.
2. Without a regular diet, I did not get the proper amount of vitamins and minerals which only made the ADD worse.
3. Though I did not always realize it, I was having some pretty serious anxiety issues while on the drug. The anxiety aggrivated the ADD and visa versa.
4. Something else I did not realize right away that I was becoming mildly manic, alot like the episode of "Saved by the Bell" where Jessie becomes addicted to speed.
5. I would often get dizzy and feel like fainting.

Now honestly, I never completely trusted the drug from the get-go, but doctors will be like "Oh never mind those symptoms, they're normal." So I kept taking them despite what my instincts were telling me. Only a few months ago did I finally tell my doc to go to hell. As did my sister. You know what the scary thing is? After 2 years of taking it everyday, I'm somewhat addicted. I crave it somedays like a cokehead would crave coke. This of course only strengthens my will to never take it again. You have to understand it is all a big system. Your doc gets $ for seeing him every month for a presciption. The drug company makes billions getting people hooked on it. They are drug pushers in suits. Its making way too much money for way too many people to go away. My advice is to stay away from it dude. Its serious stuff. Lets put it this way, does it sound like it made my life easier?

If the side effects don't go away in a week, you should probably tell your doctor. Adderall is a relatively short-acting drug (it is out of your system quickly (not like some antidepressants that take days). There are other options. Concerta is long acting (like Adderall XR) as well as some other medications that differ somewhat from Adderall. I have worked with many young people who have ADD and some do better on the ritalin based drugs, some do better on adderall.

Getting Used To Adderall

I took Adderall XR

For about the first 6 months, everything went well. But at about the 7 month mark, I started realizing that my heart was beating really fast in my chest & everything. And, I could feel it. It started to really freak me out.

So, when I went back to my doctor I told her about it, & she told me that kids were dying from Adderall XR.

I am now on Concerta which is probably not any better than Adderall.

But, I would definetly tell your doctor about you side effects.

Good Luck!

I'm not a doctor but I have taken the same meds and dosage... This is exactly how I felt and discontinued the meds due to these symptoms... Try not taking them on a weekend and see if this helps you return to normal feelings. This med is a stimulant and likely the cause of these feelings.. You should also contact your doctor and make them aware of the situation and they might choose to decrease the dosage. Good luck.

You are taking basically the same pill but in time release form. 2 weeks you should be straightened out.
