My daughter had my last name her dad was not her dad but was my son's dad and every body in the family had his name except her. when she got older she wanted to change her name. We had to see the magistrate and a short visit to the court and it was all done. All I had to do was change her name on all important documents it did not cost anything or take very long at all. It may be different where you are just cheek with the court in your area. Good luck

Well first you have to change it with the state and that cost $325.00 to file and about $20 to have the paper work competed. But I'm in the state of Florida any other state is higher. Then when you get that done you have to take those papers to the Social Security Office and have it changed there. But if you want to do it better do it now before he starts school.

You don't need to speak to a lawyer. Unnecessary expense. Go to your local probate court clerk and ask for all of the forms that you need to change your son's name. They will tell you what documents you will need to provide and there will be a filing fee. You'll get a court date and the name will be changed by a probate judge. It's really that simple.

In the UK its as easy as paying £35 to have it changed by deed poll and informing the correct authorities.
You can apply for Deed poll online, even pay online and it only takes a few days for the papers to come through.
With the papers, you'll get a list of everyone that needs to know about the change.
You'll need to keep the papers for when hes older, as he'll need them for any official documents where he needs to prove his identity such as : driving licence, passport, bank account etc..........

If you can't afford a lawyer then do a Google Search for a Legal Aid office in your town or State. You can also check the phone book in the business white pages for Legal Aid.

I had my daughter's changed after I got re-married. You will have to go through a lawyer and apply for a new birth certificate. It's not that difficult.
