being a decent mom and doing all the good things a wife/mom/homemaker does to raise her kids good and proper, educated and well mannered....what should her annual salary be? Should the government support this type of initiative and what do you think would be a good payout from government to women who opted to stay home?

For all you people who under-evaluate what a mother does I can only assume you have a pretty lousy one! Too bad. That is why I wanted the opinions of those who KNOW what a good mother does to evaluate this! See now if you really knew you would be able to put a figure to this I paid off my house and home and PREPARED to be a stay at home mom...I run my own business and do what I like when I like...my kids benefit from ALL MY EFFORTS...so I want to know what you would pay me for doing all I do. Our government by the way DOES pay mothers for staying at home and raising decent kids. :~)

I remember hearing about six months ago a study that evaluated this - it's in the range of $120K - $130K, if I remember correctly. It's like having the equivalent of two full-time jobs. Frankly, if governments were somewhat smarter, they would support stay-at-home moms more financially, for the betterment of the family and society as a whole. When did the degredation of society start? When more and more women went into the workforce when they still had small babies? (NOTE: am not at all against working moms - it's just a different choice) Children raised by someone else other than a parent cannot have the same values and experiences a parent can only give. If the pendulum swung the other way, and more moms stayed at home with their children, everyone would be better off.

No , we dont get paid to be " stay at home moms" . However there is programs put into place that allow the goverment to give familys without income money for housing , food etc. This is reffered to as " social services" . There is also a Canada Child Tax Benifit / Universal Child Benifit that allows mothers / caregivers to receive about $370 extra a month per child. And of course our heathcare is more or less free , however we have a high shortage of doctors. If you are considered a " low income" family in some cases the goverment will also help pay for childcare etc. In some cases mothers who were working before their pregnancy may have " Maternity Leave" which allows them so many weeks of paid leave after the baby is born.

Am I lost? How does a government pay a mother to stay at home? I need to get on that plan, lol!

Anyways, there were all those studies that a mom should make around $130,000. That's not very shocking.

When people talk about "should" the gvnt pay sahm's I say yes if they are a low income family b/c dad simply does not make enough per hour. Otherwise, mom goes to work and they end up getting free childcare from the gvnt anyways. Wouldn't it better soceity to pay that mom to care for the kids instead of paying the daycare? It wouldn't be much, but it would help all around!

No, I don't think stay at home moms should get paid from the government. I am a stay at home mom, but I also run an office out of my home to supplement my husband's income, which goes into "family money" and gets divided or spent or expenses without considered who earned what. Besides, it's unfathomable for the government to pay people to their kids, can you imagine how many people would be collecting checks and just sitting around watching tv or blowing it, and just having babies to collect the checks and otherwise abusing it!

I was a stay at home mom too, and the greatest reward was knowing that my child had good values, was always sent to school with a good nutricious lunch, her homework was always done, her clothes were clean, that i was always there for her after school. I did babysitting in our home to supplement our income. I believe we have raised a very independent adult, with good morals, respect for others, good manners, and above all love.

I recall an article that added up the average annual salary for as the jobs a mother does.
cook
clean
taxi
tutor
etc
I think the figure came out to $125,000 or better
It was right in line with top CEO salaries.
Makes you think doesn't it

Here we go again. The government should NOT pay mom's to stay at home! Why does everyone think the government should do things like this? Aren't your taxes high enough?
Payment is knowing she is raising her kids with her values and not someone else doing it.
If you had to put a price on it find out what nannies make.

Why the hell is everyone looking for a free ride from the government? lol it was YOUR choice to have kids AND to stay home. How is this the government's idea, choice or responsibility? Get a life. Ever heard of personal accountability or personal responsibility. Are these the values that you want to teach your children? Really, really lame. How old are you? lol I feel sorry your kids and for the values and morals and ethics that you WON'T be teaching them with this kinda of half wit thinking! Gee maybe you can collect welfare and I can pay to raise your kids for you! Remember sweetie, it's my taxes that pay for that program! Grow up!

Really funny that you say that you don't to free load off of anybody and yet, that is exactly what you want! lol Make up your mind dear! And quit your whining! Millions of Moms are great moms and don't whine, like a little child about it! lol Real mature. Bet your husband loves to come home every night to that! lol
