2.54 centimeters equals one inch, however, a quick way to convert is to remember that every 5 centimeters is 2 inches (approximately). When the weatherman calls for 15cms of snow, that's 6 inches that's coming down!
Done quickly in one's head, your example of 125cms is roughly 50 inches (125 / 5 x 2), while 125 divided by 2.54 equals exactly 49.21 inches- not bad for a quick compute!

Some tape measures have inches and centimeters on them and they will show both measures..
125cm= right in between 49and 3/16 and 49and1/4 inches
