Ok, its true that birds are a commitment. They cost money, time, and lots of cleaning and patience. BUT....they are a truly unique pet that can bring a lot of joy to your life.

If you are a 1st time bird owner, let me recommend a parakeet. They are small birds that can be handled and provide lots of entertainment. You can train them to step up & mimic lots of sounds. I had one mimic the microwave & the door bell PERFECTLY. Took him about 5 min to train me to get up & answer the door everytime he would mimic the doorbell.

Another good choice would be a cockatiel (get a hand raised one). They are a little bigger, but have loads of personality. They can live quite a bit longer than a keet, so there is a little more commitment there.

A canary is a good bird, but definately not one to be handled.

A conure wouldnt be a bad choice either, since they have personalities similar to a dog. They love attention, and are so easy to handle. Infact, these birds do much better having lots of time with their owner instead of being in a cage. They can sit on you for hours and be content.

Research as much as you can. If you are willing to commit to this animal, dont let anyone scare you away from owning a bird. They are amazing creatures who can bring you a lot of joy!

Good luck to you!

Well, all bird fly a lot, unless you get a big parrot. The bigger the bird is the less chance they would fly around all that much. I had an Amazon Parrot, he would fly around a few times, but rarely because he would have no where to land except the floor. He would play a lot, but sometimes peck me because he had MANY previous owner, and had been abused by his first owners. Budgies/parakeets are a good choice. Keep in mind that if you want a nice bird friend you will need to know how to train it so it will get accustomed to you, because if you get a bird and try to handle it before you know how to train it, it may get into an accident (crash into a window), or start screaming.. etc. If you want to know how to train a certain bird you have in mind you can contact me at amyalvarez123@yahoo.ca.

Additional Info:
Don't think for one minute that birds are a big hassle.. They are fun to play with!!! When my budgies were babies they would play with a little foam ball I had. It was so funny!! They could've been in a circus! Trust me, if they are well taken care of and well trained you will see that they are well worth buying even if you spent over $1000 for a parrot or something!! Take my word for it.

First of all, a parrot IS a bird. And parrots are built to fly but this can be controlled somewhat with wing clipping: a little like a haircut for birds.
Birds make wonderful companions if you are up to the work involved.
I think it would be great if YOU did some research about birds to find out if it is something that you really want to have in your life.
We can't make decisions for you. You have to decide for yourself. You have to do your homework and read about different kinds of birds.
Just remember that you cannot make a bird something it is not. It will always be a bird.

Birds are noisy and can make a big mess. They throw seed and flap their wings and can be a big hassle to take care of them. They can peel the skin off your finger when they bite you. Some parrots can live longer than humans. So think long and hard about it. If you get one that hasn't been hand raised and is use to people then you are in for a long time of misery. And don't take someone's word for it being hand raised. They can cost a small fortune also. So do check it out for yourself. Good luck.

No, it really is a parasitical birds egg. Cuckoos attempt this. Cowbirds attempt this, nonetheless they promote off the unique eggs. A parasitical poultry lays eggs in yet another kind birds nest and the the poultry who's nest that is will advance the parasites youthful. some species will wait until eventually hatching to promote off the unique eggs, or kill the unique nestlings,. pass to actual ten and ask poultry female for an identity of the egg. i imagine Indigo is ideal. I basically were given an identity at " Cow poultry egg " in my address bar and evidently like a journey. This looks a version on familiar Cow poultry dumping habit, nonetheless.

I wouldn't have a bird in my house for love nor money. There loud and messy. The larger one live forever, they need lots and lot of time and attention. Yes there pretty and smart but they should live in the wild.
My fave bird is a humming bird

I have 2 parakeets. They are GREAT first birds. So friendly and trainable. They are very playful, and they are small. Mine are about 5 years old now, and just as lovable as ever. I would definitely reccomend them for any first-time bird owner.

I enjoy my parakeet, she speaks her name and says pretty birds.Took a long time the and shes not imatating any noises yet. Shes loud tho but that is a good point to me(quiet at night)Super friendly, inexpensive, vacuum under her cage for feathers and food, and feed her and water her daily.Takes 10 minutes tops.Cocketiels seem too be mean sometimes and bite a lot harder if they arent hand trained when you get em.
