at four months his stomach is still very small so it is hard to give a measurement amount but start with the tip of a teaspoon and fill the tip of a teaspooon with the rice and drop in milk you don't want to add to much and it's lumpy so start small and the consistency you are looking for will still look like milk believe me the rice will be present in the baby's system and this amount is about saff for a 4-5oz bottle and a first sample of a solid food. As a side note when you decide to increase his bowel movement will thicken up so water would help that as well not too much cereal at once though keep that in mind.

when my daughter was 4 months old i started her on cereal...she had a 4-5oz bottle every 4 hours. so in the morning i would make her bottle then mix the rice and the formula in a bowl and feed her that for breakfast. then at night i would mix 2oz of formula with rice cereal and feed her that...then let her drink the rest of the formula and off to sleep she went. when she was 2 months old she slept through the night but was up everyday at 7...so at 4 months old by doing that with cereal it helped her sleep til about 9:00-9:30. if you still seem to be concerned or anything after reading all of these answers you should call your doctor and they will be able to help you out. good luck!!!

make sure it's very thinned out as well. I'd talk to your peditrician about the amount of milk he is drinking, seems like not very much for how old he is. And make sure to put more than 5 oz in the bottle, he may drink more, and then he may start sleeping through the night. I think it's about 32 oz of breast milk in a day for a baby that weighs 15 lbs.

He is nearly too young for solid food. A small amount of rice cereal, very finely ground in his formula in the evening may be best. Do not start him on a bunch of foods just to get him to "sleep". Are you eating well? What you eat also makes the breast-milk thinner or richer!
Let him sleep in a sleep-sack, in a room where there is background noise...don't let him sleep flat in a closed-off room.
Try also to crack the window. Some children sleep better with fresh air. Try a ticking clock close to his crib...
Check his room and crib location etc...is it a good place?
Is he more fussy when you eat certain foods? Do your drink a lot of soda and coffee...then he could be having caffeine with his breast milk....!

Start with 1 tablespoon in the morning and 1 tablespoon at nightime. Gradually increase it to 2 after a couple of weeks.

well i have a five month old baby and she like to eat and she does get full off of milk , so i just pour enough to make the milk thick but not that thick you know not like watery . and i also add a little baby food , i can say just try to keep the baby up during the day and a bottle by ur side at night.

I put 2 teaspoos per oz with my kids and it worked perfect. You might want to start at 1 teaspoon per once to make sure your baby can digest it fine. He should start sleeping better for you mine sure did. Good Luck!

i used to add two teaspoons to the last feeding of the night and to the first one of the morning.
add it too about 4 oz of formula or pumped breast milk.
