Give him a banana every other day. That will losen him up. If it doesnt help much give him one every day.
You can also give him straight apple juice. *watch the sugar intake though.

Did you talk to your pediatrician for any advice?
Meanwhile, to help her pass her stools painlessly, try smearing a bit of petroleum jelly on the outside of the anus once or twice a day...add high-fiber fruits that contain a lot of water— like prunes and plums— to her diet. (Four ounces of prune juice diluted with four ounces of water is a good option as well.)
(Doc Sears)
If, however, your baby sometimes goes through phases where she has infrequent bowel movements, it's not always a sign of constipation. Stool patterns can change regularly without it signaling a problem. Babies can go a few days without having a poopy diaper— and those who are breastfed may go less frequently than formula-fed infants, since mother's milk is digested more fully and therefore produces little waste.
When to see your pediatrician: if the pattern persists for many months or if your baby's stools are really hard (a sign that she's not getting enough water). He may prescribe a suppository or suggest additional testing.

A warm bath and lots of fluids sounds like a great idea, and prune juice really does have the desired effect.
Some soup with a drop pf olive oil would also help. But remember to avoid potatoes for a while as they can bung you up! Keep him on soft wet foods til he's comfortable again.

My daughter had this problem and I tried giving her enemas etc but they did not work. It got so bad that I had to put preperation H on her bottom because it was raw and bloody from the straining.
I know that you can ask a docotor to give you some stuff for it. It is a powder and you mix it with food or drink and it works really well and really fast. Also you might try feeding him some prunes or giving him some prune juice and if he is like my daughter and does not like it mix it with milk. Apple juice is also good for loosening the bowels. Good Luck and hope he gets better soon.

I use to go through this alot with my lil guy. I would start with giving him some juice then when he's ready to start going, put some vaseline in his bottom. Im talking about inserting your finger in his butt. The vaseline will help lubricate so that the poop will come out. It was awful for my son to go through that and I hated that he suffered with the terrible constipation. He would scream when he tried to go, so I understand your concern and feelings. What does your son normally drink and eat. My son can not drink whole milk. Whole milk will still to this day make him severely constipated and he's now 3. I only give him 2% milk and make sure he eats fruits and veggies. He never gets constipated now. Poor lil guy use to suffer alot, I hope this helps your son.

whenever your not sure what to do talk to your son's Doctor, of course. My daughter used to be really constipated from her formula and the Dr. told us to give her an ounce of prune juice watered down. She would scream everytime she had to go and that helped her quite a bit. Good Luck !

I gave my daughter 3:1 prune juice and water mix. It worked within about 2 hours. Be careful with the enemas though. I know that some swear by them but my daughters doctor said they should only be used in extreme cases.

First, cut out all dairy. Second, give him lots of fruit/juice. You can put a little mineral oil in the juice. Glycerin suppositories are also an option if nothing else works.

Give him prune juice,if he doesn't like it add water to it. There is also other flavors with prune juice, like apple prune, try some white grape juice also.or pedialite. That seems to help my children, but then don't give more than 24 hrs, cuz then he'll have diariahh.

Well maybe he is not getting enough liquids and also vegetables and fruit. If he is not willing to eat properly you can try to give him some papaya its very nice for the digestion and plenty of water and fruit juices. I hope he would get well soon!
