well it depends, if you heat up your body and then get exposed to cold water fast then your body can cramp up because it doesnt not have enough time to cool down , but if you wait a while after working out, then its harmless

No. I do triathlons, I should know.
Most of the stuff people say about the danger of getting in the water is either overrated or simply an old wives' tale.
For instance, there is no danger whatsoever in eating and then swimming right away. That's absolutely just a fallacy. You're not going to get cramps simply from doing that. People are fools.

When I go to the gym I do an hour on the bike (15miles usually), then I lift weights for an hour, and if I still have time/energy I'll hop in the pool and swim some laps. It's rather relaxing actually. The bike gets my heart rate going and gets me sweating. The weights obviously increase muscle, but they tend to make me tighten up. So when I get in the pool it loosens me up. I take a shower before getting into the pool.

Not really, most people have a shower/bath after a work out to lose the sweat that they have gained. I think what your thinking of is that if you eat then get into the water~ i think that is bad.

If you have undiagnosed heart conditions, it could be bad for you.
It can cause your body to go into shock, essentially.

However, usually there is no problem associated with it.
Look at Russian and Turkish baths!
There is a common practice of sitting in a super hot sauna then taking a plunge in an icy pool afterwards.
It's supposed to be excellent for detoxification.
So, no...generally it's not bad for you.

Well, I always take a shower after I work out and it hasn't killed me yet. As a matter of fact, try it. You won't stink as much then. Water always works for me after a sweaty workout. Get into it, you'll like it and so will everyone else around you.
