Hi,
I would go to cheapest prices search engine and read a lot of the consumer reviews that have been written. And then I would compare prices from all of the merchants, which is almost every merchant on the Internet, and then I would look at the products the merchants have so I could get the exact specifications on the ones I was interested in.
You can also email or call the merchants toll free and ask any questions you may have.
I hope I have helped you and I wish you good luck in your your quest.

It depends on your budget. Sony and Canon are both good bets, and Sony is coming out with a HD camcorder in October for $1,200 retail. You might want to wait a few months or more to get one. If you are going to get "hard core" serious, Canon makes one called the XL HD for about $9,000 retail that is good enough to be used by professionals. I know thats a lot, but consider that a High-Definition camera can cost up to $63,000 (Panasonic - best one I know of) then the $9,000 figure starts looking a lot better! I suggest that you wait until after Christmas, possibly as late as March, to get a better deal.
