A wise man once said...We don't come together to worship on Sundays, we come on Sundays to worship, together."
Scripture tells us "not to forsake the gathering of yourselves together." This is not written as a command, but rather it was stated in a form of..."If you love me enough, you won't stop getting together to worship me." So, no, you are commanded to worship in a building.
But, it is understood that it is extremely hard for us to face this world, the people in it who are unbelievers, and Satan and all his wiles...alone. We need the support of friends, and neighbors, who are facing this battle and this life with us. You might also consider that, if God "suggests" something, you would do well to consider that suggestion strongly. He is on your side, and isn't telling you things, just to be saying them, but because they benefit you.

No you don't have to go to church. But I attend a very good bible teaching church that is alive with the joy of Christ. It's great to be in the assembly praising Him and learning the word of God. If people don't have a church like this...I can understand their not really being interested in going.

Is going to heaven mandatory? Jesus says to worship God. And our worship to him is at home, at work, at the library...get the point. Everywhere we go. Check out the book of Acts. It's not about a building, it's about being a part of the body, the family of God. Satan is like a prowling lion waiting for his next victim to be vulnerable and unaware. Just like the lame or straggling zebra, easy prey. If the church you joined or visited is not helping you with your walk with God then you haven't found God's people or you need to study out pride and humility. If you feel that you don't need others to help you then you really don't need to worry about whether or not you go to church. Think that one over for a while. Here to help.

The Bible also says that you should not forsake assembling together. Heb. 10:24,25.
You should worship at home every day; but you should also assemble in a home. a place of assembly or on a hill side; but it should be with other saints.
There is a special blessing promised to those who assemble for worship.

Church is not mandatory but the Bible urges us to not be alone. For one thing a lone log on fire will soon go out, it takes a group of logs to sustain a good fire. So it is with Christians also, it will be easy for a lone Christian to fall prey to the ways of the world and the lies of Satan. A Christian must surround himself with others to help ward off the attacks of the enemy (Satan).

Personally I feel more spiritual once I stopped going to church.
There is a sense of hypocracy at the church and I feel like
spreading the word of God isn't a top priority.

I would think that someone who realizes that he or she falls short of God's standards and believes in the Lord Jesus Christ, would want to be with other sinners that want to celebrate what he has done for them.

No, although many will tell you it is sacreligious to not attend church. Church is a man-made concoction (spell check!).
