These girls I work with always tell me I should dress different and wear my hair different. Just for a change. So I was going to this wedding so I had my stylist do my hair different and I wore this really pretty dress and more make up then usual. One girl did say I looked really pretty. And this guy I worked with said I looked nice. But this one girl said my hair looked a litte poofy and a couple of the other girls said nothing. A couple of these girls are pretty so I don't think they could be jealous. Do you think just no matter how hard I try they think I'm that unattractive. I mean one of the girls that didn't tell me told this other girl and another lady told me that that same girl always looks so pretty. This just makes me feel bad!!! Even when I try, I guess you just can't please some people!!! What do you think?

First of all, don't try to please other people.

The only person you need to please is yourself. And this should not mean seeking validation from others.

There is a deeper problem here.

The next time anyone comments negatively on your appearance, tell them to stop being so superficial. Then ask them "don't you have anything less shallow to talk about?"

The way other people see you is their own opinion of you and really has nothing to do with you! They want you to look a certain way that suits their image of what "pretty" is. It took me a long time to figure that one out for myself. Don't let anybody dictate what you SHOULD look like - make that decision yourself. Be open to ideas, but don't change your style just to make somebody else happy.

I remember letting other people put dark makeup on me and "fixing" my hair in ways that did not suit me. *sigh* Do your own thing. Search online for styles you think will be good on you if you want, but don't let someone else's opinions sway you so much. Lack of confidence has a certain "scent" to anyone who might otherwise love you.

Maybe the girls were shy about it. Don't base your self worth on whether or not someone compliments you though. You should never expect a compliment, just enjoy the ones that come along.

Since you ask, I'd hope you would learn to feel as though you are a good, valuable, worthwhile person without relying on the opinions of others. When you rely on others for value, you are leaning on the wind.

Ok....I'm a guy and all...and nothing burns me up more than a female changing her appearance and all just to please others.....what does it matter what they think? Just be you. As long as you're happy with yourself...then that's all that matters.

Stop worrying about what other people think and do what makes you happy. You will benefit I promise.
