It may be a bit difficult to find an inexpensive flight to Paris next month. However, check the discounted sites previously mentioned by others. Also check out airlines...American Airlines, Delta, Air France, Continental. You may be surprised.
Hotels...they really depend on where you stay. I usually stay at the Republique Hotel. It's a nice hotel, the staff is friendly and speak English (for the most part!), it's near a number of Metro stops. There's a grocery store, ATM, many restaurants and some shopping nearby. I really like the place: www.republiquehotel.com. I'd check out their web site for prices.
I would not rent a car if I were you. Sweetie, you can go anywhere in Paris within a few minutes via the Metro. Since you're staying for a week, I suggest getting a Carte Orange. It's a 7-day Metro pass allowing you unlimited access to the metro during the Monday-Sunday week. It also works for the bus. It's about 15 Euros and will save you a lot of money in the long run. You'll need a photo for the Carte Orange. Go to Walgreens and get a passport photo. You'll need to trim the photo to fit once you arrive in Paris.
If you plan on visiting a lot of museums, get a museum pass. They are available in 2-, 4- and 6-day passes and are available at Metro ticket booths and participating museums. If you plan on going to Sainte-Chapelle, for instance, you will be able to walk past all the people standing in line and go right in. I can't believe more people don't get this pass. Saves a lot of time and money.
You may also want to check out Virtual Tourist. It's a web site with lots of great tips from travelers. Good luck and Happy Birthday!

I love Yahoo travel. I book with them at least twice a year. Go to the Yahoo.com and click on Yahoo Travel. Put in the dates you are planning to go and it will tell you all the prices and extra insurance, and it will ask if you need a car rental.
So, YAHOO TRAVEL

forget the car if your staying in paris- the Metro is so convient and affordable to get you everywhere.
How cheap do you wanna go? Hostels are a excellent choice- I backpacked alone (i'm female) in 2003 and had NO problems.... email me dates and i'll help you look into the cheapest flights we can find:)

look in the yellow pages for travel agents. Go see one in person & talk to them about it. If your not comfortable with that person , then go to someone else. Try different travel agents to get different prices - or you can look on the internet at different sites - look on google - put in travelling to Paris from........... wherever u live.

Or speak with a travel agent, which might be your best bet if you don't have any experience with travel planning. Their cost is minimal, and you'll get something you really want at the best prices available.
