There was a special study done to find the answer to this question and the best way is to be friendly and to sit in the second or third row from the front of the classroom in the three middle desks of each of those two rows. This gives you a choice of six desks every time you walk into a classroom. Pick one of these six desks and do it in every class and by the end of the month you will notice how your life and social connections have grown.

Be yourself and they will come to you.. Everyone makes friends in the beginning of the school year. If you are out-going and not shy, go up to people and say hi... and talk.. you will soon make friends. But if you are shy, try to make friends with some one less intimidating, and say hi.. or whats best is to say hi to the person next to you.

Stand up for what you believe in. Don't give in to peer pressure. Study and work hard. These things will help you attain friends that have the same interests.
When you sit in your classroom say hi to someone that is sitting alone. If they are mature, they will be polite to you. Those are the kind of friends you want. If they are rude to you, stay away from them. They are jerks.

yes, you need friends in h.s. don't be scared of people, they won't bite, even if they do, it won't hurt.. =) try making friendly conversation such as: come up to someone and say: do you know what time is it? or can i borrow a pencil? (but remember to give it back), good luck!! =)
