I have a 1985 Nissan 720 Pickup (2wd, Z24 engine, 5 speed manual transmission). Last week, I took it for a drive, and when I got out, the brake lights were still on. The only way to get them to turn off is to remove the fuse. I have ruled out the fuse and the fuse panel, because the key alarm is on the same circuit. It works normally when the fuse is in place. The tail lights are on a separate circuit, so they still work. Any suggestions?

It's not a sensor, it's a switch just like on a regridgerator door. It is located at the top of the brake pedal on a bracket, trhe pedal contacts it when the pedal is released.

some cars have a nylon bushing that falls out, making the light stay on all the time. It can either be replaced with a new one, or if you are far from a dealer, with a bolt with the right size head.

Yeah I just had the same problem with my Toyota 3 days ago.
Go out and climb up under your dash and press the brake pedal with one hand while you feel your way up the bar thingy (technical term) that the brake pedal is attached to. All the way up you will feel the sensor and it will have a button on it that you can pres. It is possible that the nut holding the sensor in place has worked loose causing the brake lights to stay "triggered."

You may not need to replace the sensor if you just need to tighten that bolt. With the brake pedal compressed you should be able to see and feel the button.

Good luck. I fixed mine myself and I'm a girl.

Buy the correct Nissan rubber gromet that shuts of the brake light switch did you notice crumbling rubber like stuff on the floor? It just pushes in a hole on the brake pedal lever and contacts the switch. Easy question, look under there with flash light.

Usually its connected to the brake pedal. there should be a switch connected to the mounting hardware that makes contact with the pedal. When the pedal is pressed down the switch is closed turning on the lights. Sometimes a ruber pad is on the pedal and it gets broke.

ok look up under the dash just above your brake peddle.get down there and push the brake peddle with your hand and you will be able to hear the switch.it could also be the spring is bad that pops your peddle back up after being pushed down.go out to your truck and try this.when your light wont go off by itself pull the brake up with your hand or end of foot and see if it goes off. if it does put a spring on the peddle

i dont know if its the same on all trucks but if you get under the dash and look behind the break pedal on the arm there should be a switch with a plunger that depresses as you push on the break pedal. it just snaps in take it out push it a few times maybe spray lube on it put it back in and it should work
