Yes. John 3:3 "Jesus answered and said unto him, verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."
Many people because of false teachings believe that they are "saved". But the truth is that Jesus is the way the truth and the life and no man shall enter into the Father without first going through the Son. The bible tells us in James 2:19 "... the devils also believe and tremble." It is not enough to simply believe, you must allow Christ to reign in your heart and allow yourself to be transformed into who God created you to be by the written word of God and the power of the Holy Spirit. Each aspect of your life should be aligned to the written word which changes not. If you can not line even your thought patterns up with the word of God you should definitely do some God seeking. He will answer.

Saying you are a Christian and living a Christ-like life are two completely different things.
Just going to chruch does not make you a Christian any more than going to McDonalds makes you a hamburger, either. The Christian is constantly, totally dependant upon Christ.
I hope this helps.

Yes, read John 15 and how Christ will remove the branches that are not in him, the pseudo Christians who put on a facade, but never have been saved or believe in Christ.
5I am the Vine; you are the branches. Whoever lives in Me and I in him bears much (abundant) fruit. However, apart from Me [cut off from vital union with Me] you can do nothing.
6If a person does not dwell in Me, he is thrown out like a [broken-off] branch, and withers; such branches are gathered up and thrown into the fire, and they are burned.

You can claim to be a christian, not be saved (accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior or not) and in the end, find yourself not in heaven. Not a good thing!

I think so with my limited mind and experience. I have seen people who had a love for the Lord who rejected all of it later and they ended up involved in very bad stuff.
It seems, like many other things, once you have opened yourself up spiritually you have a greater need to fill your spirit with something. And without Jesus you are gonna be full of evil spirits-- methinks.
Just my observations not theology.

You can "Claim" anything even that you are a bird and that won't help you fly. You have to live the life and walk the walk.

Of course, see matthew chapter 25 where Jesus seperates the sheep from the goats. People who thought they were on His side end up being "goats"

"He who believes and is baptized shall be saved, but he who does not believe shall be condemned."
John 3:25
"He who believes into the Son has eternal life; but he who disobeys the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides upon him."
