Sounds like your to wrapped up in money surley a caring parent would be more annoyed about the guys lack of involvment in this childs life.
I wonder why your having this baby, is it for your own selfish reasons?
You dont sound hard up so why is this your main issue with you ex, surley your child should be a more impotant issue with your ex!
Some people make me wonder *:(

Get to a lawyer NOW!!! They will be able to help you with getting a court injunction to stop him from leaving the country as his sole intention is to avoid paying child support. Under rules bought into practice in 2002 you share parental responsibility for this child, married or not, and he can now legally be made to pay whether he is in the country or not. Secondly you need to ask your lawyer to start custody proceedings stating that you would like shared custody, so that he cannot say that you have refused custody of the child. If it is true that he no longer wants to be a part of this he will have to state that he doesn't and the court will look in favour upon you for being reasonable. Finally, if you have been living together for more than six months, you are common law husband and wife and you are entitled to half the proceeding of any property that you have lived in together whether he had it before or not. If he is still living there and doesn't want to sell it, then he owes you rent for your half of the property! You have helped with upkeep and utilities, its yours too. Hope this helps!

Make sure that you have all his information (personal information) - social security number, passport identification number, driver's license identification, last known place of employment, family's addresses (like his parents) - last place of employment. Try to obtain a copy of his paystub or income tax records, so you have an idea of what type of income he was earning when you file your petition for child support. If you have all this information, even if he is out of the country, and the courts in New York have no jurisdiction, at least, if he ever returns to the United States, you could make sure that his license is suspended, income tax refund garnished, as he will have to pay you from the date that you filed the petition. . . Maybe he might get away with it, but I do not think that it will be forever as sooner or later he will have to enter the united states. Also, make sure that you tell him all this, so he could know that you have your backed up plan and that you are ready to make sure that once he leaves the USA, he cannot return as he will be entering a country which will be waiting for him for being a beat up dad and he will have to pay you from the date that you filed your petition... good luck.

Some state laws require a paternity test BEFORE you can put them on the birth certificate let alone get child support if you were not married. The law protects both parties but it also can suck. If you were married and he agrees that it is his...you better either contact an attorney or DHR. You need a court order to prohibit him from leaving the area or country until the child is born and the paternity is determined along with a support order...find a good attorney that can do this, and I would suggest doing it very quickly.

I've been having problems in this department too. It doesn't matter how much money you earn to start with. I would advice making contact with the CSA to begin with, on a good day they can be extremely helpful. I'm not sure how him moving out of the country would affect this but whilst he is here he will have to pay They do not count his housing costs or travel costs into consideration on the new rules and depending how much he earns will determine how much he has to pay. Hope this helps a bit!

It takes quite a while to get an ex to pay child support. Depending on your state and the laws for child support. But here in Canada, it could take years to get support. Once the fact of support is established that is. The process of getting awarded support is the easy part. you go to court and support is established. To actually receive it is another story. It takes at least six months for it to be acknowledge through any government agency, and then you have to find the payor and serve him with additional paper work stating that you are assigning your matter to a government agency. Then they have to return those papers, giving the government info about where they work and how much they make per year. Then the government gives them time to make arrears. if this is not followed through with then the government proceeds to garnish wages. If this fails to work and support is still not recieved they are taken to court and are to serve one day for each hundred dollars they owe. Unfortunetly to get to this point is a lengthly process. So, sorry to say, but most men get away with not supporting their children, hence the reason most single mothers rely on government assistance to help support their families. God luck sweetie. This is a tough road!!

You should also look into FMLA, family medical leave of absence, I don't know if it applies to you or not because you are self-employed, but this would allow you to be home with the baby longer.
I'd contact a lawyer ASAP. Remember a reputable lawyer will not make you pay for the first meeting with them.
btw men run off whether or not your married to them or not.

If he has stated his intention to leave the country to avoid compliance with a court order the Maybe the court can freeze his assets that are currently in the country before he has a chance to move them and himself away. Your lawyer will be able to tell you for sure. Good luck--too bad you hooked up with such a creep.

Have you consulted an attorney? You may start by consulting the District Attorney's office in your area. They might have the answers you're looking for.
Frankly, THIS is the reason I personally believe that people should wait till they ARE married to have a kid, rather than getting pregnant and THEN getting married.
