There are many reasons. Most so-called Christians belong to churches with strong Satanic influence and don't recognize it. They are under the devil's influence and try to force their misguided ideology on others.
Most churches claim they are the only ones who practice Christianity properly and that anyone who does not belong to their specific religion is going to Hell.
I consider myself to be a Christian and I am willing to discuss it, but I don't try to force it on anybody (No I'm not a Jehovah's Witness or other.)
Because of the so-called Christians trying to force their religion or the over selling attempt to convert people, people get turned off and don't want anything to do with Christians.
The end of times as we know it, is soon to come. This is when the wheat will be separated from the chaff.

It is the rampant hatred of the end times. Satan hates Christianity, therefore he targets the Judeo-Christian faith. It's not "PC" to put down any other religion but Christianity and Judaism. More Christians and Jews have been killed in the past 100 years than in all recorded history.
Bottom line: Satan has little time before the return of Christ and he knows it.

as a Muslim let me throw a curve at you.the Christians,Muslims and who ever else claims to follow a religion are people.and as the truth has a bitter taste so goes the reaction of the swallower's.when Christians rightly feel i might add that their religion is under threat, they do the same as Muslims do when it happens to them.they criticize the threat.we as Muslims know that we are to spread the truth.in doing so criticism of others religion causes people to dig deeper, examine, question the beliefs and practices that they hold on too.i can tell you that if it werent for the criticism of Christianity i would probably still be Christian.it took that criticism to make me actually think for myself as opposed to what i was told to accept.so lighten up.if you feel you have the truth, what do you care if someone does not accept what you believe? its your world, and our world too. and in the end the return of us all is to our Lord.who will tell us the truth of all that we did.

Pushy and/or weird Christians have given the others a bad name, especially the ones who want to make the USA a Christian theocracy. Take the creationists, for example. They are trying to preach their literalist interpretation of the Bible in public schools by calling it a science, and they'll lie, even under oath, to achieve that goal. Or consider Katherine Harris down in Florida, who recently said that "God chooses our rulers."
It's hard to tell the difference between a radical Muslim fundamentalist who wants to force his beliefs on everyone and a radical Christian fundamentalist who wants to force his beliefs on everyone.
And so, because of the actions of a loud, obnoxious minority, the rational majority becames tainted by association in many people's minds.

I understand how you feel. I actually come to this section to help people learn the truth about spiritual things, and hopefully guide them away from God and religion altogether so they can lead happier lives.
You should see some of the vulgar perverted sickening replies I receive from religious people, but then I understand that these people suffer from mental illness and lack of intelligence, and so, perhaps their behaviour, although irrational, has a rational explanation. I hope the following helps ease your pain and suffering.
Atheists are more intelligent than religious believers.
My own observation and analysis of the various posters on Yahoo Answers clearly reveals that Atheists are without any doubt, far more intelligent, thought provoking, and capable of holding sensible debate compared to their religious counterparts.
My private research studies indicate that religious people tend to be below average intelligence, and also have a tendency to be more violent than non-believers. This also seems to be supported by profiling various YA religious posters.
Science suggests that religion is a mental illness and that religious people act irrationally because they are genetically predisposed to the “religious or spiritual” gene. Statistics indicate that the higher your education, income, and intelligence, the more likely you are not to believe in a god.
In general terms, this summarises as Atheists are intelligent and religious people suffer from madness.

They are ignorant of God and so become bigots.
Here's what the bible says:
Knowing this, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts..."
(2 Peter 3:3)
" Now the Spirit speaks expressly that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils, speaking lies in hypocrisy..."(1Tim.4:1)

The Christian religion is beautiful. The problem is not the religion, but some (certainly not all) of the people.
