Weight training done correctly, which means working each muscle group every 48 hours, and using the right weight and form so that you reach muscle failure by the time you end your third set of 10 repetitions.

It IS that simple. Why does this work better than doing ANY form of cardio (in terms of your question, which was the most effective way to lose weight)?

1. Hard weight training burns as much calories as anything else you would choose to do for cardio and burning more calories than you consume is a key factor in weight loss.

2. If you don't do weight training, you WILL lose muscle mass as well as fat. The loss of muscle will be even more drastic if you cut your calories too low. This is very bad, because it will sabotage your effort. Less muscle means a slowdown in your metabolism so your weight loss will slow and you'll rebound faster.

3. Muscle burns more calories 24/7 than fat does. So if you compared two bodies that are the same weight (also assuming same sex and age), but one had a higher percentage of muscle to fat, the person with the higher percentage of muscle will burn more calories every day. PLUS muscle takes up less space pound for pound, so the person with more muscle is smaller (wears smaller clothes).

4. By adding muscle, you actually can speed up your metabolism. This not only speeds up fat loss, but can help prevent you from rebounding back all the weight.

Cardio has value, and is great for buiding endurance and stamina, but it isn't the fastest way to lose weight. Note martial arts or ballet would be my second choice for effective and efficient weight loss.

You should start by getting healthy and making your muscles accustomed to being worked hard, otherwise you will just get too sore once you start. So start slowly and enjoy it.

In time you will be successful only from improvements in how you eat. Also important is when - you should eat carbohydrates at the rights times, ie. in the mornings and after workouts especially to help recovery.

Make sure you do a variety of different exercises - swimming, jogging, resistance training (v. important) and other kinds. Even walking. Doing just one type will not be majorly beneficial... and if you do a variety of things, theres less chance of getting bored with it...

It is difficult to lose weight by exercise alone. You would have to walk from the UK to Gibralter to lose 1LB in weight!!

.......Just exercise and eat healthier. Be careful though, you will feel hungry after exercise, so just drink water and eat fruit and veg and low fat meat. You'll look fabulous and feel great in no time. Good luck
