Try canned pumpkin. It works great as a home remedy. Ok and a silly question...how long has it been since he had a bowel movememnt? If it has been more than 3 days I would recommend taking him into your vet and possibly have an enema done on him. If he doesn't have a bowel movement then his colon can have serious problems. They can also give him a medication called Lactulose. This draws more water into the intestines and colon and acts as a stool softener. Hope this helps

Is this a continuing problem for your dog? If it is, I suggest that you talk to your vet first before you try any "home remedies". If it is an occasional occurrence, I suggest FLAX SEED OIL (the oil its self not the tablets and it is found at your local health food store). FLAX SEED is good for the digestive track, heart, coat, eyes, etc. So really you are benefiting your dog in many ways.
I give my dog Flax Seed Oil (about 1/2 tsp) daily.
Good Luck and keep us posted!

Okay the other peoples answers are good. I know one way to prevent it from happening again though... Feed your Maltese a half cup of cooked instant outmeal a day. It helps with fiber... it keeps there coat and skin in good condition... and your doggy will LOVE you forever. There is nothing bad in oatmeal... just give in moderation!!!

You can try adding a little vegetable or olive oil to his food. Also try plain (no spices) canned pumpkin to his diet. Another thing you can try is cat laxative which is available at most pet stores or at a vet. Even though it is labeled for cats it works great and is safe for dogs. Do NOT give ANY meds for humans to your dog without consulting with your vet first.

Try a little olive oil (Tablespoon) on the food before you feed her. You can also try pumpkin, I hear it works wonders for pets that are constipated.

Make sure that she's drinking plenty of water. Switch to dry food if she's on wet food. Don't feed table scraps.
