Yes you can request a copy of your records. They can not keep them from you. You might not be able to read the papers because they are in Medical terms but you can have someone help you figure it out.

If you live in the USA it is perfectly fine to request a copy of your records what is not fine is them refussing to give thm to you... like several people have said there may be a fee for some the paper.... My mother has a VERY large file at her Dr. office and to save on the paper usage fee she suggested to her office that she buy a pack of paper and a toner cartrage and they did her copies for free, but I don' tknow if any other offices will do that. But they are legeally required to give you a copy of them as long as you sign a release form.

It's your right to ask for them, but not to recieve them. Some papers can't be put into a patients hands..for security purposes, forging purposes. It should'nt be taken presonally. Just ask your Dr. to sit down and go over them with you. Most medical providers will honor a request like that.

Absolutely, you have the right to ask for a copy. Even more, if you are planing to see a different doctor, you can request the whole chart. It is yours.

Those records are YOURS! It is illegal for anyone other than the doctorto view your records. You have the right to request to view them at ANY time. If they give you some lame excuse as to why the can't, they are in violation of the HIPPA law!

Depends where in the world you are.

In the UK you are entitled to ask, and the Dr has to give you MOST of your records.

Apparantly revealing anything to do with mental health is at the Drs discretion

Yes.They are your records. If your Doctor refuses to give them to you he can be compelled to do so by court order. Most doctors just hand them over.
