Engineering is a broad category, and includes mechanical, civil, electrical, chemical, biomedical engineering. Environmental engineering is a subset of civil engineering at most schools. Environmental engineers work on how to clean up the environment or protect it mainly. Lots of enviro engineers work for state and regulatory agencies and are not (on average) paid as well as other engineers. Good luck.

engineering is a broad category that includes many more specific disciplines
some of the major categories for which many universities offer degrees and which are routinely hired by specific industries include:
chemical engineer
mechanical engineer
electrical engineer
civil engineer
there are many other categories that are further more specific refinements
computer engineer is a subset of electrical engineering
environmental engineering is often taught as a subset of chemical engineering
there is no difference between engineering and envirnomental engineering, environmental engineering is just one specialty and application
envirnomental engineers apply engineering techniques to environmental protection issues such as stack emission controls , spill cleanup, ground or water remediation processes, regulation enforcement, etc

Engineering course may be studied in any discipline like, civil, mechanical, electrical, electronics, mining, mettalurgical, etc.
Whereas Environmental Engg. itself is a specified branch of engineering which deals with environment, i.e. how to keep ur environment safe?, It deals with pollution, sewage disposal system, etc. U can say, it is an advanced course of civil engg.
There is world over requirement for environment engr. Good scope and bright future in this field is seen.

The science of engineering uses the discipline of the natural sciences, principally physics and chemistry, to provide practical solutions to mankind's problems. Environmental engineering applies these natural forces to the problems of preserving and or restoring the environment to its natural condition. For years its motto was "solve pollution by dilution", but nowadays more serious methods are used.

Hi. Environmental engineers are focused on one field (environment) whereas engineering is not.
