There is a shortage of priests and children are expendable.
Priests bring in lots of money for the church and the children don't. Don't you know in life it is all about the money.

Because they do not screen a person for priest hood. But another Question and what I find hard to understand is why do they protect them. They use to transfer them and cover up. I mean they should have taken them to trial and prosecuted them instead of paying off the molested child. One of the priest they caught said that the Catholic church was a haven for child molestors. That is why some of them became priest.

The New Orleans priest who went to prison lasted a week. The prisoners beat him to death and nobody knew who did it. They do not take kindly to child molesters.

It is a prime example of the "forgive and forget" attitude of the Christian religion.

"George molested five children last year. Of course, I overslept last Sunday and missed the church service. In the eyes of God, both sins are equal. I must forgive George because I am just as evil as he is."

The welfare of the children never enters the picture. The potential for future harm is not even considered.

I've personally witnessed this situation. My entire extended family of hardcore Christians sided with the child molester to conceal his crimes and condemn his victims for coming forward. The nicest thing any of them had to say to the victims is that they simply didn't care enough to get involved. At the other extreme, there were the death threats.

This philosophy is why my immediate family and I have severed all contact with my extended family and why I personally despise Christianity. All crimes are NOT equal. The welfare of the past victims and the potential for creating future ones MUST be given first consideration.

It was better to try to hide the molestations than to admit they had problems with the clergy. But in the US, the church is being brought to justice, and loosing big time law suits against them. Problem would be solved, at least in part, if catholic priests were allowed to marry.

it really starts out with the necessary qualifications for the job. Mandatory ,enforced celibacy automatically eliminates a significant amount of otherwise qualified candidates. those who remain are young naive men some of whom will become child molesters.

Because they're sick bastards. They allow all forms of evil, in terms of paedophile priests, violent nuns, but feel the need to judge everyone else on their lifestyles.
The bible is full of stories of incest, rape, sacrifices, and all that crap. So, they think its ok to do this, but then contradict themselves and interfere in other peoples business.

I doubt there is a deliberate effort for it. I suspect that the pedophiles either concealed their nature, or the pedophiles didn't realize it themselves. What is reprehensable is that the Church actively hid and protected them when they assaulted their victims.

The REAL question is why they hide the ones that have been accused instead of handing them over to the LAW to be incarcerated as the criminals that they are?
