It is wrong for anyone to contaminate their bodies with poison. If you really want to die don't be a p***y, shoot yourself in the head. Don't take down the rest of us who don't smoke with you. God gave you this body as a temple. You are to cherish it and take care of it as if it were holy ground.

I just quit smoking, about 14 weeks ago. I have only been a Christian for about 1.5 years. But the more I read the Bible the more I kept seeing self-control as the Fruit of the Spirit. When the Holy Spirit works in your life, good fruit grows. The more I prayed and asked Jesus for the strength to give up my addiction to Him the more it was taken away. Hope this helps.

What does smoking have to do with being a Christian? Last I knew, he told us "What ever you do, do so in moderation." What does that make Christ for turning water into wine? An evil sinner? Or for drinking any? Not that I'm advocating smoking, I'm just sick of the phoney Bible toters judging everybody else by THEIR OWN own interpretations of the Bible. Leave the judging up to GOD where it belongs, and get off your holier than thou soapbox. Before criticizing somebody, ask yourself, "WHAT HAVE I DONE lately to make the world a better place, more Christlike? What example HAVE I PERSONALLY set, before quoting all these passages, which truthfully, only turn people away from Christ, not draw them towards him. Because you interpret them as it suits your own needs. Deeds speak louder than words. Don't quote garbage because it suits you; SET AN EXAMPLE. Don't be like the those in the temple that angered Christ.
Sorry - actually no, I'm not - But after reading all these answers claiming what the Bible says about our bodies being temples and all that crap - if YOU truly believed that, we would all be pure, innocent, and virgins, wouldn't we? And if we respected our bodies as temples, then we certainly wouldn't have wars either, now would we? Because HE taught us to love thy neighbor as thyself. And that is one tall order!! Because if we did that, then nobody would get divorced, would they? And children wouldn't come from broken homes, and yada, yada, yada.
Hey. Surprise!, I'm a Christian. But I will never, ever, pretend I know more than God and can interpret his word for him.. Don't 'cha think maybe that's one of the reasons he gave us a soul and free will? And then "Judge not, lest ye be judged" comes to mind. Oops, maybe I'm reading a different Bible.
Wow. All that because you asked a simple question about smoking.

It is not healthy for anyone to smoke, I know I have COPD and have to spend 1 hour per day on a nublizer. I could be doing other things. And as far as christians YES! I think so. One local church will not let women wear pants to church, but allowed the people to smoke on church grounds, I thought that very strange.

No it's not. Some people might think so but God isn't going to hate because you do. He will just wish you didn't that is it. If you are a strict Christian then people around will care, but if you are just a plain good loving christian then no worries.

An addiction is an addiction... They disrespect the temple of the Lord (our physical bodies)...
ALL addictions should be discontinued and the strength to overcome them prayed for on a daily basis along with thanks being given for the freedom from them granted from the previous day...

Tobbaco use is NOT a religious / moral sin for anyone; it's use does NOT lead one to doing other moral sins.
Illegal drug use, marijuana use, crack smoking, crystal meth smoking NOT only are physically addicting and dangerous---but smoking THESE drug substances CAN AND DOES lead its users into moral sins....battles with addictions for the rest of their lives....eventual prison lives....and for them and others......death.

I don't think that you will go to hell or anything for smoking a cigarette. I think that it hurts your ability to be a good witness to others.
