I am engaged. My future husband and I are looking together for a ring. I wanted to keep it cheap, but found I am not feeling very special at this price. I have asked to contribute to pay, but haven't gotten far. I would also like a wedding band. Please suggest good websites if possible.

Get the look that you love. Yes, the center stone can be replaced and updated... yes, the ring is a symbol of growth, and it can grow/change as your marriage grows/changes. That's what the anniversary bands and celebrations are essentially for... Personally, I think that lab-created diamonds are awesome. If it isn't cubic zirconia or some other colored glass, it's fine. The more expensive diamonds can come later. You will look at the ring everyday. If you don't look at it now and go, awww... this is so great... then you will have regrets over it. I have a ring with a wrap-around type wedding band... but the band doesn't quite fit flush with the engagement ring. This is something that I thought I could just deal with, and it wasn't a big deal. But, oh my gosh, does it bug me ALL THE TIME. I honestly can't appreciate the ring's beauty as much... Well, guess what. You're going to be the one looking at the ring ALL THE TIME. So, it's okay that you're soon-to-be-hubby is price conscience. That's a good sign in a guy. It's also good that you are willing to work in those constrictions- because it means that you work well together. If your friends can't work in those, then that's fine. They aren't in the relationship and soon-to-be-marriage. The point is, you know what you want. You were fine with the situation when it started, and now your friends are trying to change your mind. If you don't immediately feel like they are right, and they are just making you doubt and battle and feel frustrated... then they aren't right. Your gut is generally the right one. If deep down inside you don't feel this situation is right (with the price and all), then talk to your man. But if you didn't have a problem with it, at all, then talk to your girls. Tell them to be supportive, and you love your choice. Also- a yellow/white emerald is a common replacement to the diamond in wedding rings. For example, that's what Miss Kardashian is sporting. But in the long run... you want it to look awesome- if that's how you lean. So go with something that you think looks the most, and who cares about the pedigree/papers- if you don't care. Those can change. The look doesn't really ever change... unless you get a whole new one. And let's face it... that's probably not going to happen.

Except for overpriced mall stores (avoid at all costs!), there's not a tremendous variation in prices for diamonds. Bluenile.com is great, but don't forget that you can always get a "starter" engagement ring and trade up later in life. A new, future ring could even incorporate the stone you used in the starter ring.

Don't break the bank on a symbol when it's not a permanent one!

Oh, and congratulations on the engagement.

Try bidz.com. It is a no-reserve jewelry auction site which has beautiful jewelry being auctioned off at a fraction of the price. You never know what will be on when, but I have found several for great prices.

You also should look in pawn shops. After people get divorced the first thing they want to do is get rid of the ring. They tend to sell them at the closest pawn shop and you can haggle for a great deal.

Good Luck!

some stores that you could go to are kay Jewelers and you could even get a beautiful engagement ring out of Wal-Mart although I wouldnt even want one out of Walmart. Go to jewelry places in the mall and in different states. I would suggest Miami, Los Angeles, and New York for engament rings because they have qualilty rings for low prices. And they are GORGEOUS. Not to mention within budget and beyond budget. You'll know the right ring when you see it. Trust Me.

I'm sure people are going to be shocked by this.i recently got engaged & really wanted a beautiful nice sized diamond & wanted to be a part of the design process. my fiance and i went to a local family owned jewler(much nicer experience than those chains) and had it made just for me.we are both in a situation where we are getting back on our feet and decided that it would be alot more rational & less stressful on us to go with a cubic zurconia. in a year or so (after we pay for our wedding) he will replace it with a real diamond.no one knows its a fake exept for a couple close friends. i get to have my wedding cake & eat it too!

Check out bluenile.com. My fiance and I picked mine out there and we are really happy with it. We got to pick out the diamonds and add them to the setting of our choice. It appraised for double what we bought it for and we didn't have to deal with any pressuring salesman.
