Not yet. And if the neo-cons in the country have their say, there won't be soon. Sickle cell anemia is a nasty genetic disease among blacks named because the blood cells assume a crescent (or sickle) shape. The most promising treatment on the horizon is likely to come from stem cell research, which is strongly opposed by many Republicans, particularly George W. Bush.

You probably should be under a doctor's supervision. I don't know if there is a cure, but evidently since you've exceeded your proposed life expectancy by 24 years, it evidently can be treated. See your doctor if you haven't done so for a while. Maybe there are new meds or even something that can send your condition into further remission. Maybe you're the exception to the rule, and will live to a ripe old age. The doctors don't know everything, but at least they can help you to get the best out of whatever years you have left.

No there is not a cure yet. Go to a good teaching hospital and they will be on the cutting edge of treatments. I have worked in the medical field for over 30 years. I know that it is a painful condition.

I had a brother-in-law who lived to 54. There is no cure but, if you are lucky, sometimes there is very good treatment. It is my understanding that Howard University has a really good program and have been studying the problem for many years. You might be able to find what you want and need by checking with them. Good luck and God bless.

No there is no cure, just help for the crises....
As you've already found out.
Whoever told you that you wouldn't live past 21 is just plain dumb.
Actually average age is about 45 for those who have multiple crisises, then things start to get stickier... and the life expectancy drops with each crisis.

right now there is not a cure for sickle cell anemia. In your battle to stay well give all praises to God because no one knows when your time is up and i thank God for allowing you as well as others to live as long as you have.

There is no cure 'cause it's to do with the actual shape of the cells (sickle shape).
It's the body's defence against malaria and you can rest assured that you won't suffer that.

There are better ways to care for patients now - but certainly no cure. Exchange transfusion during a crises is now often recommended.
