I have a 5 month old miniature schnauzer. She is very friendly and absolutley loves getting attention from people when I take her outside to go to the bathroom. But sometimes, (pretty rarely), she will bark and growl slightly at someone she sees while we are walking. Does anyone know why this is? I want her to keep being friendly to people.

Dogs are just like that sometimes. She may just be responding to a 'bad vibe' of somesort. If it's only occasionally, then don't stress too much about it. If it starts to occur with more frequency, then it's time to start corrective behaviour (like making her sit each time she does it, a squirt of water, or similar gentle training techniques). : )

Dogs r the best judges of character, I have a female black shepherd and she loves everyone but there was a guy that came to the house once and I thought she was gonna tear him up. Come to find out he was not a very nice person to people or animals. I think dogs just sense certain things on people and if they think they r not nice then they try to protect u and say "hey not nice be careful of this person".

Animals sense things that we don't. The people she might be barking at are people that you might not want to associate with. They are sensitive to things that we cannot see. For instance, a neighbor of mine her dog hated their bookkeeper, but the lady really liked her. She couldn't figure it out. About a year later the lady was audited by the IRS, and they found that the really nice bookkeeper had embezzled nearly $400,000.00 from them. The dog knew more than the owner. So they always say that young children and animals are a better judge of character than us who think that we are older and wiser.
Watch your dogs behavior around people, they are very smart.
Good luck and God Bless

My dog (a german shepard) only barks when it's 'important' so I think maybe you should listen to him. He barked once for no reason and we kept telling him to be quiet. Finally we looked outside and saw our neighbor's house being broken into. The other time, a young girl came to our door asking for donations for some causes. He went crazy. Later that week, we got a letter from our homes association that said it was a scam.
Who is she barking at? If it's your kids or their friends, maybe they are hurting him physically (intentionally or unintentionally), so you should talk to them. If it's strangers, but not all strangers, it maybe because he just doesn't like the feeling he gets from them. You should just watch his reaction to people and respond accordingly (if you think it's unwarranted, tell him no, otherwise get away from that person).

You know...? I had a roommate who has a yellow Labrador... She started barking at me the moment I showed up... She barked at me every day as though it was the first time she'd seen me... I figured it was a territorial thing... But even now, when I stop by to visit, she's still very afraid of me...

We had a canines who purely barked while my uncle got here. He would not end barking. long tale short, we don't refer to every physique on my dads fringe of the kinfolk using fact they accused us of mendacity and stealing. lots for kinfolk. Your canines is probable sensing some thing from him, that could desire to be the two sturdy or not.

dogs have a keen sense for fear and other dogs. either could be the cause. your dog should be fine with people in your home or yard with you. i personally dont want my dog being friendly with people walking down the street. i have a red-nosed pit that i trained myself. she is a wonderful and extremely smart family pet. when someone new comes to my gate she barks and snarls when i come out and invite them in she is absolutely fine and eager to play with them. for her its a territorial thing until she knows i welcome them.
