Take them to a vet for a check up.

Their feathers should look nice and healthy. If thier feathers look dirty or mangled, or missing, or puffed out all the time, there is a problem. Poop should look normal. Eyes and nose should look free a mucus. Beak and tonails should be at a good length. Should be active and use its perches.

A really sick bird will sleep all the time with its feathers fluffed out and both feet on the perch. It will have trouble holding its wings in place, causing the wings to droop. Their poop will turn weird colors - a normal bird's turds should be a dark brown or green, depending on what foods it was eating.

When it breathes it shouldn't bob it's tail. Tail bobbing happens when a bird breathes. It will raise and lower its tail in big bounces and it will often wheeze or sneeze when it does that. Most birds will not bob or will slightly bob their tail. If the bobbing is very pronounced I would worry!

If there's diarrhea, a runny nose and sneezing, rush your guy to the vet! Birds, when they get sick, will go down hill very fast. It can take as little as 24 hours from signs of a cold to death. I've lost a few birds because I didn't notice signs of sickness right away :-( .

Sometimes a birds' feathers will look messy. Babies often look really dirty. Often all you have to do is bathe them or feed them a better diet than what they grew up on. In a few weeks they look better! Sometimes babies look really messy because they've not learned how to groom themselves properly. This can happen to adult birds too, especially if they're older birds who never got a chance to live with someone who knew how to care for them properly.

Good luck to you! Parakeets are great little guys!

an lively parakeet is a healthful parakeet. no count if that's hyped up, laying on the floor (because of the fact parakeets relax jointly as their status), does no longer have sparkling eyes, or nostril, then it must be sick.

If they are sick they will get all fluffy feathers out of place and their backside sometimes get poopy all over. (sorry I had parakeets lots of them and if they get a cold this is what happens)

The vet can give you medicine, they are very sensitive birds and should not be placed by drafts or cold basements or anything like that.
